1st Adjustment Update

My adjustment was yesterday evening at 5:30. I had no clue what to expect for my 1st adjustment. One of the assistants took a look at my teeth and asked if it was my 1st one and she proceeded to take off the clear ligatures that I had and the wires. She asked me what color I wanted and I told her whatever wouldn't be noticeable for my metal brackets would be fine; I got silver and they blend in perfectly. After a few minutes the orthodontist came over and looked at my teeth and was telling the assistant to do a 2x2 powerchain on my top teeth and a 3x3 powerchain on the bottom and asked me if I was ready to get my gaps closed up (heck yea!). He changed his mind and told her to do a zing zang? (correct me if I'm wrong). The assistant took a string and made a figure 8 around my top 4 teeth, put the same wires back in and put on my silver ligatures and I was all done. She told me to come back in 4 weeks and I should be getting powerchains then. What's the diifference between powerchains and the string? I'm not in any pain but when I ate dinner last night I noticed that I'm back to eating on my sides only. My front teeth are so sensitive and I can't bite into anything. I can't wait for my next adjustment; I wish it was today already. Even if I don't see progress, I love knowing that things are getting done.

Great your adjustment went so well!

A powerchain has an elastic pressure built in to it, whereas by using the thread, it can be as loose or tight as chosen by the person putting it on. I currently have power thread around my front upper teeth and another piece around my lateral and first premolar (over the gap where my impacted canine is). When my ortho was putting these on, he was exerting a lot of pressure and wound them round a few times and knotted and knotted. The gaps that were left by the powerchains were gone when I checked a couple of minutes later and have stayed that way ... which is the best news. In your case, it might be to get the teeth on either side of the gap a bit closer, so that the powerchains don't cause too much discomfort.

Good luck with your progress and here's to your gaps being closed soon!
