Hey everyone. I just got to work after having my appointment this morning. I was there from 11-1 and I finally have my braces put on. By the way, I decided to go with metal. The dental assistant took pictures of my teeth and did xrays which is the records and bonding process. They do everything in one session at my ortho office. She then put brackets on all my teeth except for one. The only thing extra the doctor needed to do is a process he called bonding. One of my upper front teeth is small compared to the other side so he wanted to make it bigger so that it would help my teeth shift perfectly during my treatment so he bonded it. In my own terms the dental assistant put this glue like stuff around the small tooth and the doctor used a tool to shape it which was the only part of the process that hurt so now the tooth is bigger and matches the other one. He basically carved my tooth. I got a bracket put on that tooth and then the wires went in. After that I watched a video and I was out of there. I'm not in any pain at all YET (I know it's coming) but I just took some pain medicine for when it does kick in. I get off at 5 so hopefully the pain waits until I get home.

    Fantastic it went so well!

I had my bracketing done in the morning and then went for a wander around town. I was waiting ... waiting for something. Eventually I realised I was waiting for some discomfort/pain to kick in ... but it never did and never has ... and I'm really grateful for that.

I did feel some tightness and one day when a tooth started rotating, there was some sensitivity around that gum area ... but nothing that's required any form of pain relief. Hopefully you'll be the same.

Remember to keep well hydrated and use wax generously the second you feel a bracket rub. If your mouth gets rubbed, it will hurt. Wax prevents this, while allowing the the skin to toughen.

Good luck and here's to your treatment going smoothly!

Congrats! My relationship with my braces has been love/hate. I love what they are doing but I hate the pain in the butt that they are. I had a LOT of pain, after I first got them on and after every wire change. But the biggest thing to remember is that as long as you stay medicated during those painful times it does pass. I am so used to my teeth being uncomfortable now that I don't even notice it anymore really. I don't know what I'm going to do when these things come off! We look forward to sharing your journey with you!
