I've finally been allowed home from the hospital. I feel SOOOO swollen and puffed up. I haven't managed to bite together yet, or to open my mouth wide enough to get a toothbrush in really.

The op itself went ok, so I'm told, except that apparently a couple of brackets broke because they didn't put any bands on. My jaw feels like it's hanging a little precariously, but I have plenty of pillows to keep it in place when I sleep.

I'm eating surprisingly well (probably due to not having bands yet!) as my mum very kindly made a load of mashed up potato - with some carrots and cheese to give it flavour -which she had split up into little portions to heat up at meal times I managed half a can of tomato soup yesterday too.

My main worry is dehydration at the moment. My lower lip is still numb, and I can't pucker enough to use a straw so I'm using an oral syringe. I doubt I'm getting my 2 litres a day, but there's not much else I can do as I can't hook up to a drip like you can in hospital. I woke up this morning with my mouth so dry I could barely croak... cos my nose is blocked (blood or snot I don't know!) I have to breathe through my mouth which is completely drying it out...

I'll post more as more things happen... hopefully I'll get those elastics soon!

congratulations on that being over and done with! Glad it went well. Getting liquids in is hard at first, but you'll be back to it before long I am sure.

can you try eating everything out of a baby spoon until the feeling in your lip comes back? that's what I did and it worked nicely.

Good luck for a speedy recovery.

Yeah, baby spoon is good for soup and mashed potato, but not ideal for water, so I still use a syringe for that. I have an appointment today (after my mum phoned the hospital and said "by the way, what's happening with my daughter's treatment?") so hopefully a few more things will get sorted. I'll just take some painkillers, then off to the ortho!
