So, I went in with another broken archwire (same spot). They changed the wire to a lighter one to keep it from happening again. He put a lot of bends in it too, so that's interesting. They also added two more elastics from the upper to lower canines. These ones are stronger and you can see them when I talk . I sure hope I don't break anymore archwires or I'll never be able to open my mouth!

Sorry you have had to put up with broken archwires 2 times already. Hope the wires won't break anymore.

how do they break? I don't mean to sound dumb or ask a dumb question, but I'm only on the second wire that they've given me, so it's not the heaviest one. Maybe that's a part of why nothing's happened that would make me think I would break it?

Shame about the archwires, sounds like you weren't ready for such strong ones. The more flexible archwires are the work horses, so those combined with elastics should do heaps for your alignment.

Good luck getting used to your new elastics ... continual wear is the best way to adjust!

    Good luck!

Newsboysgrl archwires usually break, when teeth are trying to move one way and the archwire isn't able to flex for that movement. In HeadJam's case it sounds like the archwire wasn't flexible enough for his teeth.

Archwires rarely break ... so you have no reason to expect this to happen to you!

    Good luck!

The archwire broke because there's a really big bend it needs to take at the back and I guess it just couldn't handle the bending moment.
