I already typed up a 'detailed' post about this consultation and uploaded it to my Blog, but it turned out quite long... so I wont post it all here. I will just shorten it here.

So in short: it went very well!

He took photos of my teeth, photos of my profile and did impressions. He also measured up the sizes for molar bands.

No extractions are needed (yippeee! ), well, apart from my final wisdom tooth I have left (he doesn't agree with extracting healthy teeth for a brace and thinks my face shape would change for the worse if I was to have extractions). I might not just need a brace, I could need headgear too! I certainly wasn't expecting that... but not in a bad way, I don't mind. What has to be done has to be done.

I'm honestly so chuffed it went well. This Orthodontist seems really kind and comes across as he loves his job and is eager to help, he doesn't give me the impression he tries to 'sell' it to you and isn't trying to convince you to pay for the highest priced brackets.

I have been sent away to await my written letter detailing all info etc, then I have to make up my mind if I want to go ahead with treatment.

Update: 2nd part of this consult is on the 18th October 2010

Fantastic that you felt so happy with this consult ... that's always the best way to feel!

Two things to think about ... or let go. First ... ceramic brackets rarely break and bond the same as metal brackets as long as the ortho knows how to bond them and has the right materials. Second ... headgear? This is something that is rarely used in this (or the last) century ... and when it is, it would be with young patients who's bones haven't fused.

I hope you are considering more consults. Good luck!

    Thanks Sunny.

After a nights sleep, I thought about the headgear too. But the Ortho said it's a small possibility, not for definite. He said elastics will be used though.

I'm not bothered about ceramics anyway, I am fine with having metal. He just said he would prefer if I went with metal... which is what I wanted anyway.

Hmm, well, I would have another consult, but I do not know anymore Orthodontists in my area. I've asked around with no luck... so I am stuck. My car is going to have to go in the next 6-12 months and I will have no transport, so I need someone local.

I just remembered something else that I totally forgot to mention when typing my Blog post lastnight.
He also mentioned surgery, but again, he said it's a possibility and not a definite. But he talked more about the brace/s and elastics and said he will align my top teeth first, then see how we go from there with the 'overjet'.

I'm going to phone them in the next few days to book my 2nd half of the consultation, as the more I think about it... I totally forgot to ask other questions while I was there.

Hi - That sucks about your car. Is it possible to get some more consults if you use public transport? Trains and buses might get you to more orthos... As you'll only need to go probably every 2 months, it's not somewhere you'll need to be going every week... If you got a consult in Harley St, there are loads of other orthos you could see in London...
