One thing I am not so happy with, but kinda am at the same time? because it's because of movement... I have a gap! well, a black triangle in my opinion. It's between my left central incisor and the lateral incisor.

I will be having my last (impacted) wisdom tooth removed on the 21st of March, yay!

Lower braces next week and I'm not looking forward to it. Yet more time consuming brushing and flossing to add to my already long routine

28 days in Braces with picture update

So I've been wearing my braces for 28 days now. Everything is going ok, flossing is getting easier by the week and I no longer feel so upset/stressed...

So I've been wearing my braces for 28 days now. Everything is going ok, flossing is getting easier by the week and I no longer feel so upset/stressed at the thought of it. I use regular floss and it's going well now. I am able to thread the floss under the archwire pretty easily - it does get a little more 'difficult' when it comes to the back teeth, but I'm getting there.

My teeth pretty much stopped being sore by about week 2 or 3... but I noticed in the past couple of days my 4 upper front teeth are feeling sore again. I was eating a soft cake earlier today and it hurt quite a bit to take bites from it :-( ... but yeah, all part of this journey. I've not used any wax since I got my braces, I haven't needed to, maybe that will change as the weeks/months go by, but for now it's nice not to have to worry about cuts and sores and applying wax.

Yay! I think my upper left central incisor is moving :D. It's not overlapping the left lateral incisor as much as before and it isn't at such an angle either (poking into my upper lip)... woop!.
My upper right central incisor has moved too (forward towards my lip), because when I close my bite, the backs of the upper front teeth no longer hit on the fronts of my lower front teeth... thank God! and because of this, things feel soooooo much better and not so squashed.

I hate how my cameras flash sometimes makes my teeth look more yellow and sometimes more white! I can never remember the EXACT setting I use to take my teeth photos.

My adjustment is on the 20th, so only a few days to go. With how my front teeth are feeling I am not looking forward to someone poking around my teeth though. I'm thinking of going for either Black or Red ligs this time... but I am not sure if the Ortho will keep the wire ties on 5 of my teeth still or not.

5 Days in Braces - With photos

So I thought I would post an update, 5 days in. The aching/soreness of my teeth seems to have eased up in the past couple of days, my teeth are no longer hurting/aching when I wake up in the morning. I have now started to eat a bit more solid food (only a bit though), but although my teeth are no longer hurting 'constantly' (yay, I don't need pain killers anymore!), they do still hurt a little while chewing, but nothing like compared to before. I am still unable to chew properly though, and that's because my upper right 1st molar is still hitting on the lower molar band stopping my back teeth from meeting. I might have to give my Orthos office a call/visit and tell them about this, maybe they can adjust the lower band, seeing as it isn't actually doing anything yet as it isn't connected to any other brackets.

From my previous post/s you might have been able to tell I was just a bit upset with flossing ;-), well, lastnight I actually managed to do a little better than the previous nights... YIPEEEE! I still didn't manage to floss EVERY single upper tooth, but I basically only left one tooth out on each side (my 1st molar), so there is a light at the end of the flossing with braces tunnel lol. I just used regular floss, as the Oral-B Superfloss I bought does NOT fit between my teeth.

Anyway, I thought I'd upload a couple more pictures as I have been a bit lazy on that side. I didn't take any photos of my upper arch until today, 5 days in. So here is a picture of before braces and with braces (with braces picture taken 5 days in) and a photo from front of upper braces:

I am now a metal mouth

Well my upper braces were fitted on Thursday, all went fine and I had no problems. I have all metal with Purple ligatures, but my central incisors, left lateral incisor and 1st molars have wire ties rather than ligatures.

I started to experience some discomfort about 9 hours after they were fitted and it's been pretty much constant ever since, apart from when I have taken some pain medication.

My back teeth don't meet, but I don't have any build ups/bite turbos, so it isn't because of that... it's because my upper right 1st molar (chewing surface) hits on the lower 1st molar band when I try to close my bite (it hits on the nodule? where the archwire would be inserted). It's making chewing food difficult, because I simply can't mash up my food while chewing, like normal. No worries, I will see how it goes and if I just can't get on with it next week, I will give them a call and see what they say.

I had a little bit of IPR on my back lower teeth before the molar bands went on. Although I have 2 lower molar bands, I don't have my lower braces or any other brackets on my lower teeth yet. My lower braces wont be fitted until later on into treatment, because of my overbite.

Flossing from the canines back seems to be a complete nightmare, getting rather frustrated! I hate not being able to floss properly, feel dirty because of it. Hopefully I will pick up a technique real soon.

Here is a photo of my upper braces (not the best as taken with my mobile phone):

So the spacers were fitted today. I have 9 in total, 4 on the lower (2 on each side) and 5 on the upper (3 on the left and 2 on the right). I didn't notice the 3 on the upper left until I got home. I looked in the mirror and thought "huh? 3 on the left and 2 on the right? argh! 1 is missing!" lol. I phoned to make sure and they got back to me later when the Ortho wasn’t so busy and said it was fine and "he wants to create more space on that side" so that's why the extra 1, whatever that means.
All I have read is how much spacers hurt? I've had mine in now for nearly 10 hours and absolutely no pain… maybe it's yet to come lol.
I'm not sure why he put lower spacers in, as originally he said he would be fitting my uppers first, then a few months into treatment he would fit my lowers. I totally forgot to ask before I left. I guess I'll find out next week.

I also got a small goody bag of trial stuff. It contains 2 travel toothbrushes, an orthodontic toothbrush, mouthwash, plaque disclosing tablets, a mirror, a timer and 2 lots of wax (normal and silicone).

Next Thursday is brace day!
