So my first consultation is tomorrow (Thursday 12th August)... and I am feeling quite nervous!? . Thinking about it, I'm not really sure what part I am nervous about... but that might be because I haven't a clue what happens at a 'normal' consultation.

The Ortho I am seeing tomorrow is at a practice that my Dentist refers all his patients to when they need a brace (adults and children). This Orthodontic practice has been there for years, but I think they have had multiple Orthos. I think the one there now hasn't been there long, I believe he used to work in a practice in Brentwood, I also think he is German. I'm not sure why, but I think I prefer to have a male Ortho .

My consultation is costing £100 and I have upto 6 months to go ahead with treatment from that date, which is good... plenty of time to think, visit elsewhere and get any Dental work that may need doing sorted.

My stomach is going over already and it's now 4pm on Wednesday, if I feel like that now... what on earth am I going to feel like tomorrow afternoon!

I shall update about my consultation after tomorrow!

Good luck tomorrow! Do remember to write down all of your questions before your visit. At my appointments, I get to chatting and completely forget to ask the questions that really need answers! Not only will having the question written down provide a cheat sheet for you to remember them, but also a way to keep track of the answers that you are getting from each ortho that you visit. Please remember also that no question is a stupid question; ask away!

Let us know how it goes!

All the best with your appointment ... and great advice to write your questions down!

What might happen ... umm 'how long is a piece of string?' ... almost anything can happen. Where I work, at first consults we have the person full out a few details about themselves and that includes why they're coming to see us. Then we seat them in a chair and the ortho comes in and talks to the person about why they've come and then does a general check of their teeth, bite and smile.

By the end of the first visit the ortho usually has enough information to give general information re type of treatment and possible length of treatment. The person is told that if they decide to seek further information, x-rays, photos and moulds will need to be done and a more accurate treatment plan is then prepared.

The person is usually encouraged to have further consults and/or discuss questions raised at these with this ortho.

We don't rush this stage, as it's important to get it right. Each person's treatment is important to us and therefore they need to know what their options are, also their rights and responsibilities.

    Good luck!
