Can't forget the lisp & teeth scrubbed

In my last blog I totally zoned on mentioning the truly outrageous amount of LISPING that came with getting the Forsus. It is somewhat better now, but I can lisp like the luv child of Sylvester the Cat & Daffy Duck.

As far as the lisping, and sometimes getting a bit tongue-tied (something I excel at even without braces); if I'm talking to someone and I make some sort of kooky utterance that possibly could resemble an actual word, I often just say something like, "oh these braces" which relieves any tension and just get back on track. If I'm talking on the phone with a stranger sometimes I'll mention I'm wearing braces just so they won't think I'm eating or the like.

Yesterday was my 8th adjustment and the my first tooth cleaning in five months.

I had, of course, been aiming to get my teeth cleaned in keeping with my every three months rule but I couldn't coordinate things. My teeth were, frankly, getting more than a little grimy on certain, hard to reach teeth. But today, sparkly! This was my second visit with my new hygienist. She's awesome. No cavities either. I think from now on I'll go for cleaning every four months ($140.00 a pop for cleaning/scaling/flouride. No dentist check.)

I had the Ortho take off the wires/Forsus before the cleaning. A year ago I couldn't have imagined how wonderful it would feel to floss my teeth in front of a mirror without wires on! Delightful.

Before I could say "Gaaak" the Forsus was back on. Ortho continues to be happy. He mentioned that after the Forsus comes off I will switch to wearing elastics 24-7 for a period of time (to keep the jaw/teeth from shifting back) and then elastics just at night.

The rod in my Forsus is longer, and it feels fine, so I'm adapting to the whole shebang okay. Again just got the one comfort bumper on the bottom. I had actually meant to take the bumper off a few days before my appointment to see how it felt, and, er, I forgot to do so. My next appt is in six weeks so if I remember I'll try to do so. It's not that the comfort bumper is "uncomfortable" it's just that if I don't need it then there not be that little bump in the area (below right side lip area) and no caught foodstuff in bumper.

I continue to use even less wax than before, but depending on how long my day is, and how much I've talked, I'll still use some wax. A braces wearin' gals best friend.

I asked the Ortho a few questions about my upper teeth, which are coming along swell and he was like, "We're not going to do anything with the uppers until we get your bite corrected." End of story. Um okay bossy pants. There will be continued work...I get it...harrumph.

    Hey Jude

I am so happy that your forsus springs are going better than you expected. I have been in elastics 24/7 forever and they don't bother me at all, I eat with them in and even brush with them in sometimes if I am feeling really lazy. Only sometimes if I am eating out do I take them out and then it feels weird not having them in there.

Take care!!! I will update my blog soon but my teeth seem so boring now that they are so much straighter lol

    Hiya Elle!

I'm stoked my teeth are coming along so well. Knock on wood.

As you know, my fellow Canuck our Thanksgiving is just around the corner on October 10th. Then Halloween and before we know it Christmas time. Lots of great distractions from thinking about braces.

    see ya, Jude
