My Braces Saga - Pt 1
Posted 08-27-2008 at 10:00 AM by Julie
It all started at the end of May when I had my spacers put in by Dr. David Lehman in Huntsville AL. During the 2 weeks I had the spacers I had headaches off and on including a 4 day straight period. Not just a headache, but a migraine.
I saw my doctor about the migraine... I've had migraines before but never one that I couldn't get rid of with Excedrin. The doctor gave me a shot and it still didn't totally get rid of it. She then put me on a prescription migraine med and sent me in for physical therapy for the migraines.
I told Dr. Lehman about this when I went in to get the spacers removed and he didn't think anything of it. He installed my top braces at the beginning of June and from the first day I was in massive pain. Extremely stiff neck and constant headaches. It wasn't even that my teeth hurt that bad (although they did... just not in comparison to my head and neck). My regular doctor had referred me to physical therapy for the headaches after that initial 4 day stint. SO I spent all of June and into the first week of July in physical therapy with them finding no way to relieve the pain. It just continued to get worse.
When I first started physical therapy, I didn't really think I needed it. I told them "once I get used to the braces I'll be fine...". Wrong. Once I got used to the braces I could differentiate between the pain in my mouth and the pain in my head/neck/etc. and it only got worse.
