This weekend was a lot of fun, therefore it resulted in much smiling and laughing. This, in turn, resulted in some abrasive actions...within my mouth.

My girl (Donna) and I started out on the recently finished light rail in Tempe for our first ride. As we entered the car she noticed a few friends that she hadn't seen in a while, and whom I've never met, so we decided to meet up with them for some drinks after eating some falafel (Fluffy = Good) at a local middle eastern cafe.

The good times started at Gordon Biersch Brewery and finished up at The Big Bang (A dueling Piano Bar).

If I had forgotten that there were several pieces of porcelain and stainless steel bonded to my teeth (Is that possible?) I would have, by the end of the night, had the suspicious feeling that someone had placed glass shards in my drinks rather than ice.

All in all I'd say that it's a price I'm willing to pay for a good time. After all...there are many times where our mouth pain must be chocked up to a long term investment, rather than an immediate gratification.

I'll say this for anyone who hasn't had the pleasure of having braces...You just don't know relief until you've been able to cover some offending appliances after a night of slicing and dicing.

Lesson learned - Keep wax close at all times and mouth pain can be avoided. **Dually Noted!**

As for progress. It has only been 4 days so far so I'm not seeing much movement visually, which is to be expected, but I can certainly feel the forces in the right places. How exciting!

Have a great week everyone!

Cheers,
-J

Sounds like you had fun, but you right about keeping wax with you (or close by) at all times, as you never know when something will rub and the faster you get the wax on, the quicker you'll toughen the skin and not cause a sore.

A small 'oral hygiene' pack is a great idea. Include a travel sized toothpaste, travel sized toothbrush, a toothpick or two, a small mirror and of course wax!

    Enjoy!

Being somewhat of a minimalist when it comes to carrying things I'll have to make some changes and find someplace to stash all that stuff.

A fanny pack just isn't going to happen, though. =)

I guess for guys it can be a little more challenging, but you do need to be able to clean your teeth after a meal ... as there's nothing more disgusting than talking to someone with food stuck in there braces ... plus it's a great for giving you killer breath!

I've seen tiny toothbrush and toothpast containers at airports ... and males travel with those ... so I'm sure you'll be able to work something out to make your time wearing braces more comfortable ... and cleaner!

... I guess you could stash some gear in a variety of places ... like with your girlfriend, somewhere at work, in your car (if you have one) ... and so on! Time for some creativity here ... if you want it to happen, it will!

I'm pretty anal about keeping my teeth/braces clean because I agree that it's disgusting to have stuff hanging out in there after the fact, even without braces. I do keep all of the above mentioned supplies at least in the car. In my pocket I'll have my little pipe cleaner looking thing, and wax at the very least.

I generally make a trip to the restroom just after I eat and check out the situation after a vigorous rinse. No-One wants to look at someone with a bunch of junk in their braces haha.

I may have to use your suggestion about stashing some stuff in her purse. =P

Sounds like you've got it sorted ... just put a container of wax in your pocket and your mouth will be kept sweet ... no matter how big your night is!

I had almost the same thing as you happen the first week I was in braces ... but luckily had a container of wax in my pocket and was able to put it one and keep partying with no sore mouth to follow ... not so sure I got away without a sore head ... but I guess self inflicted doesn't really count!

    Enjoy!

Wax is a great thing, and has become my best friend this week! How mean is it that as week 2 starts and I have adjusted to all this extra pressure and the pain has subsided, that I become inflicted with 2 lovely ulcers, one on top and one on bottom...jeeeezzzz....I am running out of wax..can I buy that somewhere, I am running out of the stuff the ortho gave me. Hubby says I should go get more from him considering we just paid $5000 for all this but I say, it costs more to drive over that way that to buy it somewhere! My ortho did give me a nice purple case though, filled with floss, and 2 brushes, and the Christmas tree shaped thing (next to wax--best thing ever) and threaders..and so on. This is with me at all times!! I am still not comfy with eating around people though, my kids and hubby are still giggling at me at the dinner table...will wait a while to venture out---good luck everyone, love reading your updates!!

You can get dental wax at most drug stores, like Walgreens. That should do the trick, it's even flavored!

    Orthodontic Wax | Butler G-U-M | Beauty & Spa | Walgreens

Hope that helps. Good luck with those sores!
