So I went to the ortho, surgeon, and dentist today.

I talked to the ortho about the 2 "hard spots" in my mouth. Turns out that they're roots that have bent wrong. He put kinks in my arch wire to try to fix it. I'm also on back rubber bands again to try to pull my back 4 teeth together. He's also keeping me on powerchains. He said I've also got a minor crossbite and he's debating putting me on an arch expander to fix it. I didn't think those would work for adults past 18. If he can't fix the root problem with the kinks, he wanted those 2 teeth pulled.

When I went to the surgeon, he noticed my mild cross bite but doesn't think it's noticeable outside the dental profession. He wants to see me again when my braces come off so he can see what my new jaw structure looks like post-braces.

Then there's my wonderful friend Patrick (the dentist). I went to him basically to have some back-up plans in place for just in case. He took some x-rays, poked around, looked around, and sympathized with me. I told him what the ortho said about pulling those 2 teeth if they can't be fixed with the kinks, and he won't pull them. He said he'd do some kind of precedure that involves a root canal and then breaking up the root structure so it won't curl wrong. He said it's painful and he wouldn't do it without giving me nitrous. He also said that my upper jaw bone is dissentigrating rapidly and that all my top teeth are poking through the sinus cavity.

Needless to say, I've got a lot of pain in my mouth and I have a rough road ahead of me. I'm hoping for a new de-bracing date by the end of the year, but I'm not crossing my fingers. It's going to be at least 8 more weeks though.

Jenn I'm so pleased you saw your ortho quickly and hopefully this can be corrected easily.

Expanders don't work to expand bone in adults. They are sometimes used to 'push' teeth out in the jaw bone. This needs to be done with care, especially following surgery, as your bones, nerves etc will still be healing.

It's great you have three specialist's taking care of your oral health.

    Good luck!
