I have crowded teeth and im very self concious, im only 17 and i really hate smilling in photos with my mouth open. They're obviously not the cheapest things to get but i would love to know places where its affordable and will get the job done!

I go to the local University orthodontic school for treatment. Average price from all of my consultations at other orthodontists for braces was about $5000 and I'm paying $2700.

No you don't have to be a part of anything. They are open to the public. I am in Florida. It just depends on what city you are in. You will just need to check the local universities in your area to see if any of them have an orthodontist program that is open to the public.

I also go to my local University. It was about 2,000 cheaper than a private practice.

My University, the worst part is getting in for the initial consult. Since there is many more people who wish to do a consult than those who chose to go through with it, there is a longer wait at first. It was two months for me to make the initial consultation. After that, I was able to get started 2 weeks later. Try googling your local university + "resident orthodontic clinic". Or Graduate Orthodontic Residents Program + local university.

I also go to the U of M for oral surgery, audiology, and ear nose and throat clinic. I called for fees on my oral surgery, it was about $1,000 to get 4 teeth removed at a private practice, and only $560 at the graduate program ($250 after insurance).
