I don't want to be presumptuous but please don't congratulate me yet, there is no bun in this oven as far as I know.

I have been thinking a lot lately about what it might be like to have to be expecting and undergoing invisalign treatment at the same time though. A year ago when I started this journey, I was hoping to be finished with my trays by now or at the very least by the time we go away in February. Given that I'm only on my 4/23U, 4/13L 1st refinement, it will be a while yet and any illusions I had of honeymooning on retainer time are long gone.

I haven't yet given up hope though that if and when we have children, I'll be brace free. At this point it's hard to say whether or not I'll need a second round of refinements but I think it's a definite possibility with so many refinement trays. And I suppose one could adapt to anything but based others' experience of morning sickness, munchie cravings and the like, I would think pregnancy could make invisalign compliance somewhat of a challenge to say the least.

Anyhow, if anyone out there has gone through the experience or has observed it second hand, I'd love to hear from you. As for me, I'm happy report that married life has been good for me thus far and I guess I'll just take one thing and tray at a time for now.

Refinement tray 4 pictures coming soon though I can tell you in advance that they're not particularly earth shattering but do stay tuned...

(I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas. Enjoy the rest of the holidays!)

... first I'm not going through this ... but due to working with people being treated using the invisalign system, we have had a couple who've been pregnant. Only one has reported morning sickness and she quickly learned how to remove her trays ... as the acid that is released when a person vomits is not something that you want around your teeth ...

Fortunately most people don't get morning sickness ... or only a very mild yucky feeling for a couple of days/weeks ... so hope that you'll be one of them if you should become pregnant while still having treatment.

There is a 'school' of thought around, that teeth move more easily when a person is pregnant. It's based on something to do with the additional hormones you have 'soaring' around your body at that time. We've had a few pregnant patients, but definitely not enough to base any study on.

Here's to your refinements continuing to go well and you being thrilled with your outcome!

Here's to your new year being fulled with fun and new adventures!

    Hi Lemon Tree

I have a similar story, just with metal.

I just got married July 2009, and got my braces (lower) at the end of August, -Isn't that lovely hehe I just got my top ceramics on about 10 days ago. And, I want to start trying to get pregnant sometime early this year. I still have about a year and a half left of my treatment. But, I am not going to let that ruin our plans

I am sure you will find some solution. Good luck to you!

There shouldn't be any issues, as the material is safe, but there is a possibility of more swollen gingiva as hormonal changes can cause a temporary phenomenon known and pregnancy gingivitis. It usually isn't a problem to have some swollen gingiva with fixed braces, but it could pose an issue with aligner fit. As you're already accustomed to the aligners, I wouldn't expect you to feel any more nausea with the aligners in.

    Good luck!
