Nothing exciting to report since the last post, been a pretty poor invisalign user of last couple of months to be fair, been going dar longer than the recommended time with the out per day, but anyway today was the day! Invisalign finished!
So turned up at the dentist, wasn't 100% sure what to expect, First he put on the retainer, lots of horrible drilly/ filey tools - not quite sure what was going on but wasn't pleasant, but had my retainer by the end of it! They lots more horrible filey stuff to remove the invisalign attachments, then photographs, impressions and an x-ray! - I can't say I wasn't glad to be out of there today - all I could think whilst I was sat there with my jaw aching was that my exam on Thurs suddenly looks a lot more pleasant!

Anyway - the fixed retainer bit! Feels wierd, playing with it with my tongue as I did with invisalign initially - Ouch! but sure it won't take long to get through that, just feels like it did when I first had invisalign. Just tried eating though! my teeth are so sensitive! I'm hoping thats just due to the amount of abuse my mouth received this morning and will settle down, also finding it difficult to bite with the whole new attached lump of concrete behind my teeth :-s I feel like I'm about to get everything stuck behind the retainer as well. Bit worried how I will do with chewy food as well - worried I'll pull it off or something!

Anyway looks like I'll be carrying on using the forum for a little longer for more advice! Kinda sad to see my Invisalign gone - feels very strange, and because of the sensation from the retainer I keep wanting to take my "trays" out to eat - but they're gone!!
Over all thogh 99% happy with my results, there are a couple of things that aren't quite perfect, but I was told that prior to the treatment beginning as I was advised to have a fixed Brace. But Wow can't believe how quick its been and gone!
Will get the camera out later to update my album with a final pic or 2!
Better stop procrastinating now and get on with the revision anyway!!

Fantastic that your active treatment is over and now it's about a lifetime of retainers to keep your amazing new bite and smile!

I've yet to experience a fixed retainer and removable retainers ... to say I can't wait is a massive understatement!

Some of our patients do make comments about their teeth feeling sensitive after their braces are removed, and in the case of invisalign, after their attachments are removed.

The bonding of the fixed wire retainer is usually a simple process and our patients quickly adjust and are grateful for the added confidence they get from only having to wear their removable retainers at night. We check our retention at one month, three months, six month, 12 months and yearly after that. The yearly appointments have to be paid for by the patient, but these appointments give us a chance to check if the teeth are being retained properly and to check the bonding on the wire retainer. The wire retainer only works while the bonding is holding and this can come off for a variety of reasons.

When I put bonded retainers on patients, it's placed so that teeth cannot come into contact with it and it's close to the back of the teeth it's bonded to. This is to prevent damage from the person biting and to prevent most food from becoming lodged in it.

I'm sure you'll adjust quickly and will find it a great security for when you're not wearing your removable retainers.

Good luck with your retention and enjoy you new smile!
