Week 50 - FINISHING WIRES!!!

Guess who is in their finishing wires?? ME!! Finally my last wires! I swear I have had about 5 or 6 different sets of wires so far during my treatment. It feels great to hit this kind of milestone in my treatment. My orthodontist was very happy with the progress of my teeth and said that my bottom teeth have really opened up and my bite was looking great. My upper teeth are covering 50% of my bottom teeth unlike before I had braces where my upper teeth covered 100% of my bottom teeth. I am still in Class II elastics (boo) and they added a power chain on my upper teeth to close gaps. The assistant asked me if I wanted clear, but then I asked her if they had a color that didn't stain so easily, so she put on a pearl color. Pearl is really WHITE. You can totally see it in my mouth. It makes me wish my teeth were more white It's okay I guess... I just didn't think it would be SO noticeable. She also said I can make an appointment to change them if they start to stain. I may change it back to clear in 3 weeks, but I'll see how Pearl works out first. They also put a small metal square in between my lower central incisors... it looks weird. I don't really like it. I believe it is so my wire doesn't move around so much, but couldn't she have put it near the back somewhere??

Here is a picture of my current teeth. I'm very happy with the progress so far. My next adjustment is in 6 weeks.

Um... are these MY teeth?? Sometimes when I take pictures I can't believe those teeth are mine It looks so different, but in a good way!

    OMFG YOU'RE IN FINISHING WIRES????? AHHHH!!! Dude!! You must be so stoked!!! I was just thinking "are these MY teeth?" today! Isn't that an awesome feeling?? Wow I'm so happy for you. Please keep us all updated! I'm getting my powerchain changed out tmrw, I wonder if my ortho has different colours... thanks for the tip on Pearl. Good luck w/ everything

    Woo Hoo!!!! Congratulations! I wore Pearl ligs for a couple of months, and yes... they are very WHITE! They were more noticeable than any of the colors I've ever worn, and were the only ones I ever got a reaction from with my coworkers. I did find that when they did stain, though, it was more of a glowing yellow than a dull yellow (like with the clear). That's why I never got them again. Well, that, plus my ortho didn't carry them on a regular basis (only samples).

    Is your wire rather thick? If so, I think that's the one I have on both uppers and lowers. In fact, I've had the same wire on my lowers for almost a whole year. It's the ones he's making bends in to try to rotate stubborn teeth. Anyway, Your teeth really look wonderful, girl!

    I've had a few of those "stops" (that's what I think they're called) put on my wires; yep, smack-dab in the middle of the upper and lower teeth, as well as off to the sides, and it is to prevent the wire from moving too much. Nobody ever noticed them.

    Gotta love the finishing wires. Actually I don't mind them when they're left in. I also have those little silver squares in my mouth. They're put there to keep the midline in place. In power chains, try clear or silver. I love silver because it's hard to see and it doesn't really stain.

    @catgyrl Yeah, i'm still not used to the extremely white Pearl color, but I have to admit, it doesn't stain! My wire is pretty thick, I think it is as thick as my last wire and my last wire was RIDICULOUS.

    @justjenn I've had clear before a couple of times, and it would stain after 3 weeks. No bueno! So I figured I'd try pearl and see how I liked it. Maybe I'll try silver next time! Thanks for the tip

    congrats on the finsihing wires. I have never had any problem with my pearl ligs, they blend better then the clear did and i was on 5 week treatments when i started using them. but i also have never had it in the powerchain only single ligs
