They're ON!

I got my braces on today!

I'm actually surprised by just how good the ceramic brackets look. If it wasn't for the metal wire (which will eventually be swapped out for a white wire) They would be just about invisible!

I was super anxious/nervous all week, but it went really well. Putting the bands on my first molars was the most uncomfortable part (finding the right size) but it was over pretty quickly. I also ended up with a length of exposed wire on all four sides (I have one tooth on each side that isn't bracketed yet since we're just leveling my teeth to start) which was irritating the side of my mouth - now I understand why people say that braces and dental wax are best friends! I have a feeling that I'm going to be using a lot of wax ... I should buy stock! haha

It's so weird having all this "stuff" in your mouth. My mouth feels huge, and invaded by everything attached to my teeth. It took me about 25 tries to get a good picture; the brackets and wire really mess up your ability to smile! I need to re-train myself!

My bite is already pretty funky, because of the bands around my molars. Eating dinner was an adventure - my left molars don't touch completely, so I had to chew mostly on my right side. That's going to get old fast.

My bracketed teeth are a little sore (it's been about 4 hours since I left the ortho) but no major pain yet. I'm expecting the real pain tomorrow, but no fear - I've got my ibuprofen handy!

Fantastic ... the brackets look great!

Good luck adjusting to the pieces of exposed wire. If they annoy you heaps, you can give your ortho a call and ask for some tubing to be put on them. With the tubing being bigger, it doesn't cause the same problem as the thin wire does.

Make sure you keep well hydrated and drinking water while you're eating is great for keeping food away from your hardware.

Good luck with adjusting to your treatment and here's to you seeing changes with your alignment very soon!

Those looks great. I have the same ones for a couple weeks now and am totally used to them. Good luck.

Congrats. I felt the same way in the beginning. I actually have a tubing over the wire which runs across the space left by a missing molar on my lower left side. The metal tubing over the wire sure helped me because the wire was literally cutting into my jaw and it was highly uncomfortable. Hope you are doing well today.

Congrats and good luck. I guess I must be one of the crazy ones on this board cause I can't stand wax on my braces. Course I've found that I don't need it near as much with ceramics anyway.

Thanks guys! They look great - most people at my office didn't even notice them this morning! How the feel is another story altogether LOL My mouth feel so foreign! (I'm sure I'll get used to everything within a week or so)

I really wish they had given me tubing over the exposed wire ... it's been irritating me all day! And I can't really get wax to stay on it because it's just a wire, so it slips right off within a few minutes. Any ideas?

Lileepers give your ortho's office a call and ask if you can have some tubing over the exposed wire. Until then, try sugar free chewing gum, as often it will stay on the archwires long enough to give your mouth a break. Also rinsing with warm salt water may help soothe your mouth.

    Good luck!

It's great to hear your doing so well, I get my braces on in 4 days, I'm excited and nervous all at the same time. I'm getting ceramics on the top, then will get metals on the bottoms in a few months...Looking forward to hearing about your progress.
