I'm 5 days in, and still feeling pretty darn good about this whole braces thing.

The adjusting to braces hasn't been that bad (yet - I don't want to jinx myself!) The way people talked about it, I thought I was going to be in agony for a couple of weeks!

I've had some irritation to my cheeks etc, but it wasn't anything that wax/salt water rinses/a good night's sleep couldn't fix. My front teeth were sore for the first two days, but that was about it. I still feel a good amount of pressure on my front teeth (which is good, because it means that they're moving!) but it's not painful.

Eating with braces on is interesting to say the least. It's a lot slower than non-braces eating - I'm really paranoid about biting my brackets off! I had lettuce for the first time (with braces) today, and let's just say that it was hilarious! Those leafy veggies get all caught up in everything!

Brushing/flossing/rinsing at night takes forever (my roommate says that I will get faster at it as time goes on - I hope she's right!) but it's worth the time and effort. The last thing I want is to finally have straight teeth, but have them be all yellowed, or even worse, covered in cavities!

One week follow up appointment on Thursday!

Great things are going so well for you and this is the norm for our patients. It's a shame that most people only talk (and write) about the negative side of anything, so it's good you're sharing your positive experience.

I'm a raw foodie and eat leafy greens at least twice a day. The easiest way I've found to eat and not have food left behind, is to wash it away with water. It makes eating easy and it's great for your body's hydration levels.

    Good luck with your appointment!

It's good to hear that I'm not alone, I was starting to think I was some sort of freak of nature haha!

I saw so much talk about staying hydrated on these forums before I got my braces on, and didn't really "get it" but it's truly amazing how important it is to stay hydrated! I now carry a water bottle with me for when my braces start to feel "sticky" - it really helps to just take a drink and swish it around.
