*first off, i did post my before pix/day one pix here, but i have more pics (of just other random stuff lol) on my blogspot account (http://bracestimes2.blogspot.com/ - the posts are the same (actually i added the day 2 stuff here that i prob. won't there)*
day 1 (8.31.09)
So, I got my braces today. It took about an hour and a half (including impressions...I chose strawberry).
I ended up getting colors (lime green, hot pink). They aren't really hurting right now, but I know in a little bit they probably will be.
So, I will go in every 6-8 weeks for adjustments (for about a year). This next time I am waiting for 8 weeks so that my brother and I will be able to have appointments at the same time.
Dr. R does a token system, so each time you go in you get tokens (1 for no broken brackets, 1 for good brushing, 1 for being on time, and 3 for wearing your shirt). In return you can get different things. There is a "treasure box" for the younger kids, $10 gift cards, $50 gift cards (to Target, Best Buy, or iTunes), and the staff favorite (which is currently a pink or blue iPod nano).
And I got a whole bunch of other stuff...my t-shirt, a kit (that has a travel toothbrush, toothbrush, floss threaders, floss, wax, a timer, etc.), special toothpaste, a magnet, and some coupons for Taco Bell.
day 2 (9.1.09)
so, not much to report...im still in pain, which is to be expected. although i don't remember being in this much pain the first time. i mean, i do have a pretty high pain tolerance, but for right now advil and wax are my best friends! lol
also, i really hate using the floss threaders. i don't think i really used them the first time (and if i did, i don't remember). it just makes flossing take so much longer!
but, a few months ago i found these things called "bryton picks" at meijer. one pick can be used for about a month (bc it is made of stainless steel which is germ resistant). It is really flexible and as thin as floss and is an "alternative for people who are unable to floss" and an "on-the-go floss solution." It is FDA registered and once you floss through 2 teeth you just have to wipe it off with a napkin, tissue, or hot water.
I haven't tried it with my braces yet (I need to get a new one), but on the directions it says to "'floss' from behind" (so, when you take it out from behind teeth you pull it out vertically, so the wire doesn't interfere). here is the website where you can buy it from, but it is about a dollar cheaper at meijer (plus you don't have to pay for s/h): http://www.brytonpickstore.com/. it is probably sold in other stores, i just have only seen it at meijer.
