I guess I'm a little over 3 weeks in. I go in for spacers at end of next week so I can get a band around a premolar crown that they don't want to bond directly to...that's my only tooth with no bracket at the moment.

The whole thing has gone pretty well...after about 10 days I was back to eating just about everything I did before except nuts, popcorn, raw carrots. I had the weirdest sensation when I first got them that every time I chewed it felt like I was pushing the bands on more and more...but I don't get that as much now.

I STILL don't like the little tabs on the tongue side of the bands...why do they have to be so rough?? I haven't been using wax on them for a while so I guess they don't bother me that much, but they are annoying.

I caught some cheek between a top and bottom bracket yesterday and abraded the tissue, so I have been using wax on those two to prevent more damage to the cheek and that's healing now.

But, other than that...smooth sailing.

Sounds like good progress! I can't wait to be back to normal food!

Keep using that wax! I just got my braces on yesterday, I can already tell I'm going to be using a lot of wax ... I should by stock! LOL

I know how those things on the inside of the bands feel. I actually had mine filed off last week because they were so bad they were rubbing sores on my tongue. If they keep annoying you, maybe you should ask your ortho about flattening them or filing them off. Mine told me that they're not really necessary once the bands are on anyway.

Good luck with your braces! Sounds like you're doing better than I was at that stage.

Great your eating is going so well lojoma!

Give your ortho's office a call and like Jenn, ask if the cleats can be removed or at least flattened. They're there to help 'seat' the band when it's being put on ... and it's a shame they don't get removed after that's happened.

You poor thing biting your cheek like that. Using plenty of wax while it heals, will help the new cells to toughen. Also rinse often with warm salt water to help heal and soothe your mouth.

    Take care!
