Well I made it through my appointment even though I was freaking out about the IPR because I did not know what to expect and the attachment thing had me a bit apprehensive as well as I was not sure where or how many I was getting....

So I walk into the surgery and sit down with the assistant and I asked her how many attachments would be done today and she said "good question, Im not sure" (great start!) anyway she looked at a piece of paper and said to me "6 buttons you'll need". So Im sitting there thinking Oh My God I'll have them on the front for sure but after asking further questions I then found out that I only have to have one on the top which they were doing today and the other 5 would not be put on until I started the bottom trays so I could worry about them later!

So I lie back and the ortho was in my mouth for about 5 mins then she puts an aligner in for a minute and then takes it out and then some more noise and then a sandpaper feeling that was done between 3 teeth and that was it. All over and I was done! I was literally in there for 15 mins, bargain! Was no where near as bad as I was expecting.

The only negative would have been that she had to put my next aligner in and I was not able to do it just before bed so it was very tight and uncomfortable for the rest of the afternoon. So dinner time comes and I go to take them out and they wont budge! No movement what so ever and the pain from the tooth with the attachment was unbearable! I ran out to my husband and cried " I cant do it, Im going to have to not eat for a few days!" I hate that feeling of not being able to take them out but my son suggested to have a drink of water (not sure why, I dont think he knew why either) which gave me an idea so I went and rinsed my mouth with warm water and they eventually came out. Must say it was less painful to have them in!! Anyway when I took them out there was a pool of dried glue from the attachment in the bottom of the aligner and I am thinking that thats why it would not come out at first and it felt like my tooth was chipped with a sharp bit coming down so now a few days later I still am not sure if its a chipped tooth or a bit of glue in the wrong place.

All I know at this stage is that it is definately more pleasant to have the trays in than out! The attachment is very noticeable when I am eating as food sticks to it and when I talk my lip gets stuck ontop of it so I have to put it back over it to close my mouth. But all in all not to negative about it all. I just want straight teeth and it does not matter what I have to endure to get it.

3 trays down 35 to go!
