I just had my 6th adjustment and many things were done. First, my ortho filed between my front six teeth. It wasn't painful at all. He said that he is trying to create more space in my mouth because my teeth are protruding out and he doesn't want to pull any of my teeth out. I really really really hope this isn't necessary. I don't know what I would do if would to say that I needed to get some teeth pulled. I really don't want to. I hope this can get fixed without pulling any teeth. :S I was also given my first rubberband. It's on my left side and it doesn't bother me at all. I want progress so I am wearing my rubber band 24/7 except to brush my teeth...it's called "Bill" My lower teeth got a new wire and my top stayed the same so I have the same size wire on both arches now. I also got a powerchain on my lower teeth because my ortho wants to close the tiny spaces he created.

My braces journey has been excellent so far, but I am a bit worried now that my teeth protrude outwards. I like my teeth I just don't like that part. I hope my teeth won't stay like this. My next appointment is in 5 weeks. I hope to see changes.

    Hi mariagn,

I am having my braces fitted in 2 weeks time. I will too be having IPR to make room as I will have an 'overjet' once my upper front teeth are aligned (currently they are crooked and tilt inwards slightly). I'm hoping if anything, IPR will only be done on my upper arch as I feel my lower front teeth are thin enough, but maybe IPR isn't really visible as it's such a small amount.

I didn't want extractions either and was pleased when my Ortho said they weren't needed, but if extractions are the only way to stop my upper teeth from protruding then I hope this will be addressed if needed later into treatment.

Anyway, I hope you soon see changes with the issues that are currently bothering you

Fantastic that things are going so well!

Talk to your ortho about your concerns. Plus if you should need extractions, you can be certain that your ortho has explored the alternatives. It's important to remember than some mouths just are too small for the teeth they have and therefore if the teeth are to fit in this space, adjustments to their size and/or there number has to be made.

Good luck with IPR providing enough space!

I don't notice any difference with my teeth after having the IPR done. My ortho told me he might do some more IPR on my next visit which is fine with me. I really trust my ortho's skills and I know he's going to try to give me the best results he can give me. What I'm afraid of most is having the 'sunken' look due to removing teeth. It's still early with my treatment time. I still have another 13-14 months more to go so I'm just not going to worry and hope that everything starts to look better. Thanks for the replies.
