Hello everyone !

I'm not entirely new to the forum, I've been checking it daily and watching everyone's progress and thoughts and thought I might start my own blog as soon as I had my braces installed.

I've needed braces since I was 14, but could only start affording them this year. (I'm 20 now) I went in for a consult mid-April because of severe crowding and an overbite. My impressions, molds and x-rays were done and my braces were finally put on on May 11th 2012. The orthodontist says my treatment time is about 2 years. After six month he will evaluate whether or not he needs to extract one of my lower teeth (which grew completely behind the other ones) He thinks he might be able to fit it in.

Here are pictures of my teeth the day before braces:

Here are pictures of my teeth now, 1 week into treatment:

Sorry for the poor quality of some of the pictures, had a hard time with my phone haha. So there isn't much progress yet, this is mainly for my introduction. As you can see I have bite turbos to prevent me from biting down on my lower brackets, which makes eating quite tough, and my speech is different but I'm getting used to it. Pain wasn't too bad, some teeth are still tender but its not as uncomfortable as I thought it would be !

My next appt is on July 10th (8 weeks and a half.. my ortho is on vacation end of June so he cant see me earlier) I'll make sure to post pics every couple of weeks to show the progress ! Sorry for the long post guys, have a nice dayyy :bye:

Awesome! Thank you so much for sharing! I had very crowded teeth to begin with too (progress pics on my profile) so I understand how you feel! The Damon braces (for me) have worked SO fast and I never knew my overlapped teeth would ever fit in a single line. They are! You'll see lots of movement soon, and then you'll get random achey teeth after that as each one moves at its own pace. Welcome to the club and take lots of pics! You won't regret it!! :)

Awwh!! That means sooo much to me!! If anything I post on this site makes just ONE person go for it, it's more than worth it to me! :)
You're so lucky you're still young and I wished I had swallowed my pride back then to get braces, trust me. I always knew I needed them too but I just learned to deal with it (covering my mouth when I smiled or laughed- switched to my 'good side' before someone snapped a pic of me etc) and didn't let anyone know how much it really bothered me on the inside. I've always been a big goof making people (and myself) laugh and even as an adult, I was made fun of. Being a model is a ruthless business. Men AND Women will eat you alive in publications :( I toughed it out but it started getting harder. It wasn't until my son (now almost 9) started getting older. I didn't want him to be teased in school because of mom's crooked teeth. He was my big inspiration :) He will definitely need them too, but he thinks they're cool and can't wait to get his now after going through the journey with me. All in all, hang in there! Once you start to see progress, you'll start smiling bigger and bigger! You'll take a pic and feel like you've had NO progress- then you'll take one and say "OMG my teeth look sooo good" - and have no idea that in a few more weeks they'll look even better! Heck, a month ago I was like "wow my teeth are almost there"! Then I took the newest ones I uploaded 2 nights ago to my album and was like "Holy cow" lol! Keep us updated!! xoxo

Wow that's awesome that you do modeling ! Same for me about always covering my mouth, every single picture I took I didn't smile with my teeth.. My twin sister lucked out and got the straightest teeth ever, I reaaaally need them on the other hand. (Especially for that random tooth on the bottom hehe)
This is my 9th day I think and I barely notice them in my mouth and i'm not in any pain at all so I'm thinking braces are pretty great ! I honestly loved going through your blog and seeing all your positive attitude in all the updates! I'll make sure to post as often as possible give off as much positive energy as you do :) xxxx

My treatment has only started, but I haven't noticed any staining at all in my case ! I brush twice a day with an electric toothbrush, rinse with mouthwash and floss every 2 days.. The clear ones are MUCH less noticeable than the metal ones, I personally think. I'd really recommend them, my friends all say they look great clear !

They aren't invisible of course and the braces are noticeable up close, but they're the best looking according to me:)

I haven't had any issues either with staining (Damons don't have elastic ligatures like traditional ones do- those were what stained.) I had a lot of dental work at the same day I put my braces on so I was on prescription mouthwash for 6 weeks. Everything stained during that time and you can tell in the earlier photos of my progress pics-yuck. But, when I had my 8 week checkup- they cleaned all the stains off and they're good as new :)

I have white powerchains now (they get replaced in 2 days after 1 month of wear) and they're still as white as they were on day one. I also brush 4x a day though.
