Here is an update with pictures... As you can see my teeth and bite have gotten worse as expected. In order to get all teeth straight and within the arch, the ortho does not focus so much on the bite, rather getting ready for surgery. My last ortho tried to hide the underbite I have by forcing teeth in directions they didn't want to go, so my current ortho is lining them up correctly as they should be... So i expect to develop even more of an underbite over the next couple months. I should start to see the spaced close too as my teeth are pretty sore since my last adjustment. My next appointment is in about 7 weeks.

Fantastic photos Mike! It's going to be great to see your final outcome!

Your original photos show an outcome that is so much better than mine ... but hey that's just the way it is. Some people can have their teeth moved in ways that are very different to others ... surgery or no surgery.

Good luck with the powerchains and your preparation for surgery!

Wow Mike you have had some movement, and thank goodness you now have an ortho who is concerned not only about perfect teeth but in correct bite! Great job and I look forward to seeing more pics!

Thanks guys It sure will be nice when my teeth fit together properly.

You are right michelle, having an ortho that looks as the functionality of the bite is awesome and not just appearance.

I love your brackets. I'm SO JEALOUS! My teeth did all kinds of seriously messed up things to get to this point. I'm so excited that my midline and bite are finally almost exactly where they need to be, but wow did they move around and do some awful things for a while. Good luck with the movement and the surgery.

Denise, I had the same brackets on my upper five as Mike has on his teeth! On Mike's teeth they look amazing and to me, they look way better than they did on my teeth. It's amazing at how the same product can appear to look so different!

A good orthodontist will always be concerned about a persons bite, unless the person who's having treatment is doing it for cosmetic reasons only and the ortho is treating appearance and not function.

The goal of presurgical orthodontics is to line up the teeth within each arch, without regard for the bite. In Mike's previous treatment, the lower teeth were likely retroclined, and upper teeth proclined to camouflage the jaw discrepancy. Presurgical ortho is going to retrocline the upper teeth and procline the upper teeth so that the bite actually looks worse before surgery. The surgery is then completed to correct the bite.

Great progress and look forward to watching your treatment continue!
