Pain!!!

OMG my retainer hurts more than my invisalign braces
they keep digging into my gums, my teeth are insanely sore, and my tongue is getting ripped up everytime i talk
Invisalign never hurt... yet my final retainer is just killing me
four weeks of wearing this full time???? Im gonna die
I also noticed that after braces my bite is all screwed up and i tend to only bite down on one side... my dad says my jaw will naturally fix that and find its real placement and that its just trying to bite where it used to and that i shouldn't worry too much about that...
but GAH STUPID RETAINER!!!!!! Im popping ibuprofen like crazy to numb the pain

Sounds like you should give your ortho a call and ask about your retainer digging into your gums. A soft nail file should quickly fix any rough bits that your tongue is being affected by.
I so want to get these braces off and into retainers, but posts like your's remind me of why so many people don't wear their retainers as they should ... so ghee I'm going to have to be disciplined when it happens!

well i left on vacation today and wont be back home until wednesday night so if its still painful ill give him a call thursday... I took an emery board to the really rough spots on the day i got the retainer but its just sharp edges along the entire thing....
and Its great having the braces off, especially having smooth teeth... and I do have the tendency to leave the retainer off for an hour or two at a time to make my teeth feel better but its only for four weeks and after that it will be only night time... today wasnt as bad as yesterday so hopefully all will be okPosted 06-20-2009 at 10:39 PM by mindlessswirl

I was in such pain for the first two months of having my braces, I thought there was no way I'd ever live through it. I still have a bit of pain on occasion, but all the cuts and sores on my cheeks and tongue have finally healed. It was the worst thing ever. I still hate my braces but now I'm actually seeing movement so it makes it a bit more bearable. 16 months to go!
BTW try Motrin IB (200mg tablets), it works way better than just plain ibuprofen. At least I've found it to. One with breakfast and one about an hour after lunch and one before bed, and I'm about pain free all day.Posted 06-22-2009 at 02:46 PM by Denise
