Hi guys

been feeling pretty low of late and everytime i get an adjustment or something changed i go back to square one and feel incredibly low and often like ive caught a bug and trying to shake it off.. two weeks ago i got my top arch wire changed to a stronger one within two days i started to feel really ill, prior to that when i got my metal bands in back teeth i took a while to recover from that too and i dont mean pain.. i mean really fatigued.. low ebb feeling sometimes with a hint of aggression.. is this normal. just after i had my braces put in i was frequently visiting the loo so my doc thought it was a urine infection but this is continuous ...
am i going mad.. this the reason ive not posted for a long time.

Goodness...I hope you are feeling better. Could there be a chance that you are responding to some sort of chemical either in the ortho's office (latex gloves, bonding stuff, etc.) or something that is part of the material in the wires, brackets, power chains, etc?

When I first got Invisalign, I experienced a few physical setbacks as well. Some I do think were simply due to the body's stress in adjusting to the changes in my teeth - some of us are simply more sensitive to that than others. However, I also found that if I washed (and washed and washed) my new aligners before using them for the first time, I was in MUCH better shape. I also drink TONS of water the day before and two days after a new aligner to help wash away any chemical residue.

You are certainly not mad; just sensitive! Talk to your ortho about the materials used - mine had never encountered anyone with this sort of challenge before, but I changed that! Perhaps he/she can offer suggestions on that front.

    Hang in there!

    Hi pearlywhites!

I'm so sorry to hear you're going through a hard time right now. I can sympathize completely. Just had my first adjustment on Thursday, and had a constant headache and absolutely NO energy all day Friday. I literally came home from work, washed up, took an Excedrin PM and called it a night... at 6:30 PM! I'm still tired today, and a bit irritable because my teeth hurt worse now than they ever have. I'm sure I'll feel better later in the day, though.

I think Phantom Muse is right - our bodies have to get used to these new "things" (wires, bands, etc.) every time we go in for an adjustment, so it seems like the first day of braces, all over again. Like the movie "Groundhog Day".

She had some great advice - hydrate, and bring up the possibility of sensitivity to certain materials with your ortho. Rest up, hydrate, wax, eat, do whatever you can do to feel better. Billions of others have gotten through this - we can too!
