Well, since I am new to the site it was suggested that I keep a blog on here.. I am 32 but so new to all of this.

This is my 2nd round with braces, due to a cost discount I decided to go with the linguals. I knew it would be an adjustment, but to I underestimated it.

The braces were put in both upper and lower on Wednesday 2/4. Due to the layout they needed to put composite on the back molars so I didnt bite the brackets off the back of the eye teeth. This causes me to have virtually no bite as they just about touch. I cannot eat anything but pudding, instant potato, baby food.. and I feel so hungry and more than frustrated to the point of thinking about having them removed and deal with the TMJ.

I cant seem to get rid of this lisp either ,and my job is doing technical support on the phones. Luckily they have worked with me but this will be short lived. Also some co-workers seem to find it amusing that I cant speak clearly.

I dont know- at this point I feel so frustrated and already fed up. I dont know how I can deal with this for a year.

Just wait. It'll get better I promise. All the annoyances from the beginning of braces get exacerbated by having linguals I'd think, but you'll get used to them.

    Promise.

Sorry that it's painful, and the lisp and you can't bite down. Just like what HeadJam said, stick it out, it will get better!

Hi there--hang in there, I was miserable the first week. I don't have linguals, I have regular ceramic upper and metal lower but the eating was so hard, and my bite is so "off" that I can't bite down well either. Eating is something I have to do now, not something I want to do. I am 31, and a front office type in a medical office and deal with people all day long, in person and on the phone. so far so good though, only a handful of people have asked me about them, and then it is just because they think it is neat, and they had them or they want them. I am doing much better now, but for a few days there I was thinking "what have I done and how am I going to get through the next 18 months of my life???" good luck!

Thanks for the comment =) How far in are you on your treatment?

I am finding the talking is getting better, the lisp is less noticeable unless I am really tired, and my mouth still gets tired after a while.

I agree with what you said- I am feeling the same way about eating:
something I have to to not something I want to do...
It is very unpleasant.. and I am wondering how long that it is going to be like this.

I would have no problems having them at all if it were not for the eating factor! The people at work are feeling bad because they order out and when they bring the food back, I have my slimfast and babyfood. I am sure they can hear my tummy growling!

I know pudding and instant potato I can eat. Still finding overcooked pasta very very difficult and I have used the blender to get the fruits, but i feel like I am lacking protein.
Does anyone have any ideas ( besides protein shakes?!? )

For protein (assuming you're not lactose intolerant or have a peanut allergy)
    Yogurt, peanut butter, tofu, milk

Hi Peppy, I am only 6 weeks in...and speaking of steak, I did have some on Saturday..I was able to eat it in small pieces LOL...don't know how much of it got chewed well but I got it down. As before, not as enjoyable, but it was nice to be able to eat it. In the past week or so I have been able to touch my back teeth down on each other. This is a big change as I could not until then. This is not a great thing as it tells me my over bite is worse. A big reason why I couldn't touch before is that my lower brackets would not let my top teeth go over them, they would bump. Now it does, which tells me something is off. I am going through a lot of the "gets worse before it gets better"...my teeth look flipping huge, and now there is a gap in my front teeth. ugh. hate it. My midline and bite looks all crooked and waaaayy off. I will ask my ortho about it next week when I go for my appointment.
Just keep telling myself how happy I will be one day.
