  1. Same old

    by , 07-03-2010 at 09:36 PM
Nothing much to report here - I feel a slight bit of pressure (not pain) and the spaces between my upper teeth seem to be closing in. Other than that, I am wasting no time and am eating quite normal.

I went to see my periodontist this past Monday since I am about 4 1/2 months away from taking the braces off. I decided I will do the tooth implant on the lower left in the first week of January 2011 so I may take advantage of my Flexible Spending (here in the US) for 2011. I pretty ...

  2. Adjustment

    by , 06-23-2010 at 09:49 AM
I had an adjustment yesterday. Ortho says the bite looks great so he told me stop wearing the elastics for now as he wants to see if the bite holds in place. Other than that, just a couple minor adjustments; wearing a power chain on top an a power chain on bottom. It must be my imagination but this adjustment has been a breeze - no sensitivity / nothing. I hope it's the same from now on .

  3. Sensitivity

    by , 05-13-2010 at 03:01 PM
I am still not able to bite into anything firm because of the sensitivity I feel when I do. Other than that I'm quite fortunate that I don't have a constant ache/pain.

  4. Teeth/mouth not as sore ...

    by , 05-12-2010 at 10:51 AM
So far, so good, my teeth/mouth are sore but not nearly as much as I anticipated so no need for any pain meds. I am however throwing caution to the wind and eating softer foods and making sure everything is cut in smaller pieces.

  5. Woo hoo adjustment time

    by , 05-11-2010 at 04:16 PM
I just came back from a scheduled adjustment. As I mentioned in the last post or two, an x-ray was scheduled today as well as the adjustment. My ortho says my jaw bones and teeth/roots look fantastic so it was time to play with the roots. I was happy to hear that the condition of my bones / teeth were just fine and the bite is looking great.

The moment of sheer joy was fleeting as I heard the ortho mentioning the various adjustments he was doing. Of course I don't remember what ...

  6. Popped a bracket off

    by , 04-27-2010 at 10:25 PM
Oops I suppose it's about time ... the bracket on the bottom left molar popped off. I had it replaced this morning and my ortho decided he would do a minor adjustment on the bottom. I now have a light strength elastic (kimodo dragon) from the top left 3 tooth to the bottom left 6 tooth day & night and a medium strength elastic from the top right 3 tooth to the bottom left 3 tooth night only.

My next adjustment has now been changed to May 11.

I can feel some pressure ...

  7. Sorry my entry is late ... adjustment done on April 6

    by , 04-13-2010 at 10:46 AM
I have been MIA as I had problems logging in but that seems to be resolved now.

The wire in my upper left molar all the way in the back moved a bit during the last week prior to my recent adjustment. It actually came out of the bracket a tiny but so I know this adjustment would be a doozy.

I got my recent adjustment on Tuesday, April 6 and some bends were put into the top wire . The wire on the bottom was changed to a stronger wire. I didn't feel much when I initially ...

  8. Feeling the pressure of this adjustment

    by , 03-04-2010 at 04:00 PM
I am not in pain to the point where I need medication, I am definitely feeling the pressure from this latest adjustment. At least this is my excuse for eating soft / comfort food.

The rubber band going across the front teeth feels weird but I am sure I will get used to that soon enough. Thankfully, I am only wearing it at nights.

  9. Another adjustment

    by , 03-03-2010 at 05:56 PM
I went in today and had a power chain put on the bottom (again) from the bottom left 4 tooth to the right left 7 tooth.

The ortho feels that my teeth are in position as far as the bite so I am getting a partial reprieve from wearing the rubber bands in the day and will wear one at night from the bottom left 4 tooth to the upper right 3 tooth.

I am certain he did some maneuvering of the top wire (i.e. bending) as I feel a bit of pressure. I feel more pressure on ...

  10. Latest adjustment

    by , 02-03-2010 at 11:46 PM
I went in for my adjustment today and my ortho says he is very pleased with my progress. I know I am pleased because my midline discrepancy is resolved (or so it seems) and my bite is coming along quite well.

Both top and bottom power chains were removed at this appointment and the top arch wire was changed to a thicker/stronger arch wire. I am still wearing the Sea Lion rubber bands from the top left 3 to the bottom left 6 and top right 6 to bottom right 3.

    My ...

  11. Happy New Year everyone!

    by , 01-01-2010 at 07:54 PM
Sorry I have been MIA (all due to the holidays).

My last adjustment was actually done on Wednesday, December 23. The ortho changed the top power chain to one that "opens" and put a power chain on the bottom teeth. The rubber bands remain the same strength (sea lion). Of course, I have no idea what the terminology means - I just do what the experts tell me to do.

Well, by reading my blog so far, you probably realized that I have been very lucky as far as ...

  12. Stronger rubber bands

    by , 11-12-2009 at 02:54 PM
I just had my adjustment and the wires and power chain will remain the same but I graduated to stronger rubber bands (Seal). At least today I don't feel the kind of pressure I felt 6 weeks ago. I do feel the pressure from the rubber bands being a bit stronger since I skipped the medium strength bands.

Before I went in to see my ortho today, I felt as though the brackets on my upper left molars were shoved into my gums so at least I know there is movement going on. I had to put ...

  13. Getting back to normal

    by , 10-07-2009 at 10:34 AM
I can thankfully say that I must be getting used to the pressure from the power chain and elastic. The brackets are now rubbing in different areas (just a couple) which I gather is because things have / are moving around.

Well, less sensitivity when flossing so it seems that I am coming along well and getting back to normal.

  15. Less sensitivity

    by , 10-04-2009 at 03:02 PM
Today is much better as far as the sensitivity when I bite down. I'm still eating soft foods but trying to get back to eating normally. I still feel the sensitivity when I floss as my teeth (top row where the chain was applied) are a bit tighter.
