Replaced bumper

My ortho replaced the bumper. Instead of a rubber one, he made one from a tiny steel tubing and it feels just as comfortable as the rubber one. If I break this he will give me a reward. All kidding aside, I better not break this one.

The archwire never actually slipped out of the brackets but the actually rubber was splitting apart at the seam where it was joined (super saliva) .

I told the office I should just have a standing weekly appointment - NOT!

Aside from when the bumper started coming off and when it came off, I had started eating normally. Yes, I even ate cheese. So, I was a pretty happy camper.

Now, all I have to worry about is kissing someone .....

Fantastic news! I've not seen a metal tube used in this way, but it sounds like an excellent idea.

Here's to your continuing comfort and you finding kissing a breeze!

Thanks for the cheering Sunny & Anny.

Sunny, the technician/assistant was quite funny. She said, "Don't worry. I have never seen a problem the doc cannot fix." Sure enough he came out and created the bumper from a stainless steel tubing. It feels just fine but I have been rolling it around on the archwire.

Whats a rubber bumper?? cause i have something on my braces instead of coloured elastics and they are sooo unattractive....
Are the coloured bands really important on braces??

TinTin92 - the rubber bumper is a tiny rubber tubing that goes over/around the archwire that runs between my first pre-molar and second molar. I am missing the second pre-molar and the first molar so there is a space there. The rubber bumper prevents the archwire from rubbing the inside of my cheeks raw. I do have a couple coloured elastics on my molars over the brackets which I think are used to help secure the wires in the brackets. I'm new to braces so I am guessing here. I have grey ones on the top front and bottom front but they don't show as grey. You don't even see them actually. Hope this helps.
