The Big Day :)

So yesterday was the big day

I was so nervous before my appointment. I thought they were going to say the brace had to stay on for longer or they weren't going to be able to get it off. The ortho had a quick look at them and to my relief said we could take them off.

The wires were really hard to get out, then they used some clip thing that pulled off the brackets, I seriously thought my teeth were gonna get chipped. But they were all off within seconds. Then came the horrible bit, getting off the glue and cleaning up my teeth. I've never really suffered with sensitive teeth, but oh boy my teeth were sensitive, the whole process was really quite uncomfortable.

After a good while of cleaning and polishing it was time for the retainer. I have a fixed retainer, which is a small metal wire behind the teeth, top and bottom. That was nice and easy to get on. The wire is glued to the teeth. I thought it would really bother me, I do keep playing with it with my tongue but its not uncomforable in the slighest, and best of all no one can see it and I don't have to worry about taking it in and out. The one thing they did advise however is how important it is to brush behind the teeth properly to avoid plaque building up and we certainly don't want that.

After the retainer was put on they took new moulds of my teeth and pictures. I have to go back in 6 months time for them to be checked. I asked how long I have to keep the fixed retainer in and they said that the longer I wear the fixed one the better. So I'm thinking if it don't bother me too much I will just keep it in. I don't think I'd be too good with putting in a removable one, too tempting just to forget about it and I certainly don't want the teeth shifting back again.

When they first gave me the mirror to look at my new teeth I was horrified, all my gums were bleeding and swollen, apparently as the brackets were quite close to the gum line alot of plaque had built up so this had to all be cleaned off. When I stood back from the mirror and looked at the teeth properly, I was over the moon I was really surprised how clean they'd come up as they were quite badily stained. I was thinking before I had them off of getting them professionally whitened. But I think I will just do a home kit like I did before the brace went on, as although I like my teeth to look good, I don't want them to be glowing, lol. Its surprising how different they seem to look without the brace on, they don't look like my teeth, lol, I really do love how straight and more comforable they feel in my mouth. I can actually bite together properly now.

I was really surprised as at the end the staff presented me with a big bouquet of flowers Never expected anything like that, I wanted to get them something as a thankyou but hadn't as I didn't want to jink anything. Bless em.

Here's a link to there site, I highly recommend this orthodontics, they have done a really good job and the staff there were so helpful and friendly

I haven't taken any pics yet of my new teeth as they still look quite red and swollen. I'm doing the big move on Saturday so will try and post pics before then. If not they will be on very soon

I really can't stop smileing and rubbing my tongue along my smooth teeth

I haven't really ate anything too different yet with them being quite sore still, but it was so nice to drink a cup of tea without a straw I can't wait to bite in to my first KFC or subway , heaven It was also really nice that when I ate some toast I didn't have to run to the bathroom and pick out all the bits stuck in my brace, I thought the retainer might be a nusiance, but its not at all, good stuff

My lovely bouquet of flowers
