Here's a pic from a few years ago (one of my favourites) of me, Jasmin and my mum. It was taken on my 22nd Birthday. I will be 26 on Sunday, where does the time go???

So yesterday I had my adjustment. I knew my teeth had made great progress since my last visit. All the gaps have closed, but one little gap at the top. Those elastics do a great job. It was so worth keeping them in. I only ever took them out to brush my teeth. Then a new set went in. To begin with they were a right pain, but I got use to them very quickly, I suppose like the brace, your mouth adjusts to it.

Orginally I was told 18-20 months which at the latest took me to April. However I was told when the elastics started that we were now looking at June, major bummer. Well I was sat in the chair yesterday with butterflies in my tummy waiting to find out what the ortho had to say about my progress. After him having a look, he said, well its up to you, we can take them off on your next appointment or if you want a better shape to your teeth, apparently my teeth are slightly triangular, thinner at the top then bottom, then we can file the teeth into a better shape on the next appointment and then work on closing the gaps. I sat there in silence for a minute trying to work out what he was talking about, I've never noticed the shape of my teeth were triangular. Well after it sank in, I was like, take them off. Some people may say you've been all this time in a brace so why not have a few extra months so they can perfect your smile. But in all honesty I've always liked my smile, it was just the fact I had an overbite that I didn't like. I love how my teeth look now, so once the gaps closed, thats it for me, I'll be a very happy bunny.

In all the excitment I forgot to ask about the retainer. I'm sure when it started they said it would be a fixed retainer top and bottom. I like the sound of this, it means I don't have to fiddle about taking a retainer in and out when I eat, and I wont get lazy and forget to put it in. I certainly don't want them shifting back after all this time.

The big day is 07/04/10, they said it will be a long appointment as they have to clean all the teeth up. I hope they can get off some of the stains, my teeth were nice and white at the start, but have gradually yellowed over these past 18 months. I'll see how they come up then book for a scale and polish. I've been looking into whitening. I can't afford any proper treatment yet, I still have £750 to pay on my brace but I was looking at Crest White strips which looked pretty good, and the home kit I used before the brace went on worked really well for under a tenner.
As you can imagine I can't stop beaming, nearly brace free at last. I just hope the gap does close. I only have to wear the elastics at night now, which is ideal, but I just hope its enough to close the gap.

It's my birthday on Sunday, I was hoping they would be off for it, but them coming off in 6 weeks time is a good enough birthday present for me.

What can I say I'm just sooooooooooo excited.

I've been thinking about what meals I will be able to eat again without worring about staining or bracking brackets and I wont have to drink hot drinks through straw anymore. And how will my teeth feel without the brace there, I've forgotten what it feels like not to have brackets and wires in my mouth.

I'll shut up going on now, christ if I'm this excited now, imagine what I'll be like when they come off, lol. So fingers crossed everything goes as planned and I will be brace free on 07/04/10. Just in time before moving back to Plymouth.

Here's some pics of my progress

Great to hear about and see your progress! Remember how important retainers are towards maintaining all your hard work and investment! Congrats!

Of note to those who wish to complete treatment on time or faster... those elastics really have to be in there all the time except for eating and brushing to work effectively, just as with plymouth . Keeping them in part-time doesn't get you anywhere .

Fantastic news Bunny and I'm pleased you did the 'full time' elastic wear. We have people coming in saying they can only wear them for so long, or they hurt to much etc. The thing they don't realise is that if they don't wear them long enough, much of the work that's done while they're wearing them is undone. Also if they do hurt a bit to start with ... the more they wear them, the less that will happen. We sometimes have to use springs for patients who're not compliant ... and they can't be removed and look far worse than elastics ever could.

I think your teeth look amazing ... and I agree with your decision to have your teeth naked at your next appointment!

Thanks guys I am really chuffed with how they look and so pleased that I kept those elastics in, they really do a fantastic job. And like Sunny says the more you wear them the less they hurt. My teeth actually feel strange now I'm not wearing them all the time, I'm so use to them. I really didn't want to wear them to begin with, I thought they'd be really obvious to people and really hard to eat with them in, but no one actually saw them until I pointed them out and eating was fine, I just had to break things up a bit more.

So fingers crossed I shall be posting pics next month of my naked teeth, lol, forgot what that looked like
