Considering Getting My Braces off Early

Hello!
I got my braces on a year ago. Throughout the past year I've been coming into the office in between my scheduled appointments (I'm friends with my technician) and she has really sped things along for me. I was in elastics from March-September. He said my bite is fine. Last time I went in he changed my ties and said, "You're done with elastics see you in 6 weeks." Then I came in today and he changed my ties and said, "Everything's looking great, see you in 6 weeks." I feel as if he is just trying to kill time because I am so far ahead of treatment. He quoted me at 24 months and its been 12. Also, another orthodontist office quoted me at 18 months. But I'm 19 and was super responsible with my elastics and everything for the past year. That's why I am so far ahead. Sue (my technician) said that everything would be fine if I got them off early. I just wish I knew the reason why he wants to wait another 6 weeks without doing anything at all to my elastics or wires. My braces are all paid off (I paid for them myself) and I want them off. but I don't want to make a mistake. But if my teeth are perfect and he's not working on my bite, what would it hurt? Thoughts!?

Maybe he wants to make sure your teeth are totally settled into place before he takes the braces off? It takes a while.

I agree with abbaker. Your teeth has to settle or else you risk your teeth reverting back. Be patient, I'm sure your debanding date is sooner than you think!

Thank you guys so much for responding! I just wish he was more clear I guess. Anybody know anyone who got their braces off early and it worked out? Just curious!

Not sure if anyone here got their braces off early, but I have seen plenty of cases where their debanding date was earlier than expected because of dedication to wearing their applicances/elastics/etc. Hang in there!
