Just getting braced or thinking about it.
Hi all! I just wanted to update and document my first adjustment since having my braces put on on Jan 4th. I went to the ortho for my apt yesterday and was in there for less than 15 minutes. The assistant called me back and sat me down in the chair. She took a brief look at my mouth and said, "Okay, looks like you are ready to start rubber bands today, we'll see what the Dr thinks." In my head I was extremely surprised to hear her say this. I was not anticipating rubber ...
Howdy! So, I have now had my Damon Clear braces for exactly 5 weeks. Throughout the last month I have had very brief moments of VERY minor aching in a few isolated teeth. Eating with braces is like riding a bike. It took a few days, but now I barely think about them when I'm eating. I thought about nothing but my braces for probably 2 straight weeks, and now I think about them quite a bit less. Mostly only when I'm meeting new people or friends that have not seen me since I ...

Hey all! I just wanted to post some pictures of how my teeth look at the very beginning of treatment. I have damon clear on the top front six teeth and regular metal damon brackets on the rest. Let me know if there are any other angles or pictures that you would like to see. 2012-01-09 10-53-02.218.jpg2012-01-09 10-34-32.542.jpg2012-01-09 10-33-38.480.jpg2012-01-09 10-30-57.857.jpg2012-01-09 10-30-21.130.jpg2012-01-09 10-27-34.093.jpg2012-01-09 10-20-06.874.jpg2012-01-09 09-58-49.322.jpg2012-01-09 09-57-10.190.jpg2012-01-09 10-42-19.818.jpg ...
So, regardless of varying opinions from friends and family about whether I should start treatment so soon or without getting multiple doctor's opinions or treatment options...I trusted my gut and started my treatment on the 4th, last Wed. So, last week I drove to the ortho office, slapped my down payment on the counter and they escorted me to the back. My ortho office has an "adult" room which I assumed is where I would be, but I wasn't. I was placed in a chair in the ...
Well, it's finally time. Tomorrow at 9 am I am getting my Damon braces installed. I am excited and of course slightly nervous all at the same time. This is my third time with braces, but it has been 10 years. So, although I'm trying to act cool and like it's no big deal because I have been through it before, part of me is still a little hesitant. Some of my family and friends recommended I delay getting my braces on due to the fact that I was promoted over Christmas break and ...
So, shortly after the new year, I will be getting braced. This is the second time in my adult life of having full braces and I am pretty excited. I feel like I know what to expect since I just had braces less than 10 years ago, but I also know that a lot has changed in orthodontics in that time frame. I will be getting all my braces (top and bottom) on January 4th. I will not need any spacers or anything in preparation for having the braces put on. I wasn't sure if my next apt ...
So, I was texting with my best friend the other day, setting up a dinner date for the following week and I mentioned to her that I will be getting braces again on January 4th. Well, she is the best, she was very excited for me and assured me that it'll be great. She said she would get them too if she could. So, she has a dentist appointment soon and said she would have them check what her insurance covers and that if she can afford it, she will get them too! If so, I won't be alone with braces ...
The first time I was referred to an orthodontist is when I was around 9 years old. I was very excited at that age, I thought braces were cool. Truth be told, I still kinda think they are. :-) A history of thumb sucking as a child had led to an underdeveloped mandible and narrow maxilla. I wore an appliance to expand my upper palette. I had to crank it every week with a key to expand it. After doing that for about a year, I was given a functional appliance called a Frankel, to promote proper ...
As I approach 30, the last thing I ever imagined that would be happening to bring in the new year would be me getting braces...again! This will be my 3rd time undergoing orthodontic treatment. Needless to say, the past two attempts have only masked my major problem (moderate overbite) instead of fixing it. The fix in the past always involved jaw surgery, but the cost was never covered by insurance, so it never happened. At this point, I have extremely straight teeth, a beautiful ...
