I'm Braced!

I went last Thursday and got my top braces put on. Let's start with the bad news first...my orthodontist put the wrong brackets on me! I specifically asked for the Radiance brackets and they put the Clarity brackets on. (I attached a picture so you can see the difference between the brackets) It wouldn't bother me that much if I hadn't spent the last month doing TONS of research on all my options. I mean if they were going to put what they wanted on me anyways, I would't have wasted my time. I didn't notice until I got in my car and looked in the mirror that they were the wrong brackets. I had to rush back to work or I would have went back in and addressed the issue right then. So, when I got to work I left a message for my ortho telling him the problem...I haven't heard back from him yet. The clarity braces have a metal slot where the wire sits in the bracket and are opaque. The radiance do not have the metal slot and the are clear...they look wayyyy better which is why I chose them. I know many of you ay think this is not a big deal and that braces are braces...but I was given my options, did my research, and made my decision. I go back on 2/9 to get my bottom braces on and in my message I left for the ortho, I tild himj I owuld like to see about switching them out to the radiance when I come in. I know it's not a simple process, but I'm going to be in these things for a year and a half. I want what I want.

So now that that's off my chest lol! I paid for my braces in full to take advantage of the 10% discount...saved me $300.00! My teeth were very sore the first two days and I took 800 mg ibuprofen every six hours but the third day they were better and did't take any medicine. I haven't taken any today either. It still hurts pretty bad to chew, not sure how long that will last. I've been drinking milkshakes and eating cereal and ramen noodles since I got them on. Also, the bracket on my far back right molar had messed up my bite or something. I can't bite down all the way and I don't kow if the bracket is too low on my tooth or what but something is in the way back there. I'll have to address that at my next appt. The braces feel very awkaward but that was expected and luckliy I haven't really had any irritation from them to the inside of my mouth. I'm sooooo excited about getting my braces and can't wait to see my straight smile!

I think only you notice which type of bracket you got. I got the radiance, and to be honest yours look just like mine... you can't even tell you have metal on your brackets because it's covered by the wire.

Oh, to comment about the bite/bracket. I had that issue when I first got mine on. For the first week my bite only hit two brackets and I didnt touch my teeth anymore. That is no longer the case. My bit has changed literally every week. I used to hit the brackets, then I didnt. Then I was hitting my upper right incisor, then I didnt. Then it shifted to my left incisor, then my two canines touched... Now, my very back molar has shifted so only my back molar touches... it's been a ride, that's for sure... Ive only had them for a month.

Your brackets look great! I agree with NarcoAngel in that I don't think it matters if the bracket has the metal slot or not because the wire will cover it up anyways. Those brackets look pretty invisible in your mouth as it is! Grats on the start of your journey. Keep us posted with pictures! We like pictures lol

I can't tell about the metal part on your braces either, but you should get what makes you happy! Especially after taking the time to research the decision. I got my braces on last Thursday and I'm having the same issue with eating and my bite. My back teeth touch way before my front leaving me with an open bite. The "hardest" thing I've eaten so far is cheesy bread and I wasn't even able to eat the outside edges of that. But oh well, it'll all be worth it in my 20-24 months. Good luck with getting your bottom row on and getting your brackets changed!

Looks like I got a lot of fun ahead of me lol! Right now it's thed back right teeth preventing me from biting down all the way. It was like that immediately after the braces were put on which makes me think one of the brackets is getting in the way...but I guess things like this are to be expected.

In person, the metal part on the bracket is way darker and bolder than the wire so it really stands out. Like the brackets are subtle and the wire going across the brackets is subtle but as soon as you get to that metal part on the brackets it's like bam! I posted a picture in my album and the side by side comparison of the two brackets really shows how much better the radiance looks than the clarity.

The back teeth hitting are much less irritating than the front teeth hitting. Trying to eat when your anything in the front touches, sometimes sends a sharp "Sting" when the front teeth hit, and makes you go run to the mirror making sure you didnt knock out a tooth... lol. At least that was me.

Are you feeling better about them yet?

Ha! No I'm actually feeling a little bit worse about them :-/ They seem discolored now. I don't know if it's my stained ligatures making them look dingy or what.

I think it's the clear brackets in general. I feel like that too. And I believe others have the same concerns about "discoloring" either on the brackets, or their teeth. I actually had a dental cleaning yesterday, and asked my dentist if my teeth seemed more yellow, and she said no, it could be just the clear brackets that make me feel that way.

So I've finally decided to stick with these brackets. They seem to have grown on me and once I get a thicker arch wire on you probably won't even be able to see the metal slot on the brackets : )
