So here I am about one month in after getting my braces on. I have to say it has gone by pretty quickly and I hope the rest of my treatment goes by this way. I must admit I am still self conscious about my braces, especially when I have to laugh or talk to strangers. They make me look much younger than I am, and since I already had a young appearance, I feel like I look like I am in high school. On a positive note, it has definitely helped me control my eating portions and I feel much healthier.

    Great that things are progressing well for you SoCal!

    Here's hoping you continue to feel more comfortable with each passing day. I think it comes as quite a surprise when we realise we're not really that important and that people don't really care about our teeth or what we're doing to them. To us, well we're so focused on them, but to the rest of the world ... well they're not an issues for them ... which is a relief!

    SoCal, I'm 31 and people place me at 24. Trust me, looking younger than you are is NOT always a bad thing I have had mine for 15 months now, and I'm still self conscious about them....but I can tell you that you will become less aware of them and you'll get more comfortable around people in time. Just remember that the sacrifice now will lead to LOADS of confidence in the future!!

    I'm almost 29 and before I got braces, people thought I was 20-21. Now, I have people asking me if I'm 18 or 19. I've been told that once I have my overbite surgery, that will take another 2-4 years off my looks. So, if I'm 30 when they come off, then I'll pass for 24ish. That's what I'm most self conscious about. Oh and the only people who realize you have braces are others with them. I never knew so many people had them until I got mine on.
