Hi Everyone! I haven't posted anything in a while, but it seems as though everything is going well. I have my first adjustment next week (8 week appt) and I am getting nervous. On one hand, time has gone by very quickly and I can't believe it's almost been 2 months since I got my braces. On the other hand, I am dreading the pain I felt for the first week and the inability to eat real food. At least I have a frame of reference this time, and know that it will not last forever

I haven't taken pictures since my last post, so I think I will take some after my first adjustment. Hopefully, there are some changes!

Great that things are going well for you SoCal.

Adjustments are something that should be looked forward to, as it's a chance to hear how things are progressing and to ask questions of your ortho.

Since this is your first and you're so worried, you might be wise to take some 'over the counter' pain meds before it, to help you cope. Mostly adjustments are pain free, but for some people they do hurt for a day or two, but nothing like when they first go their hardware.

During some appointments almost nothing happens, as remember the archwire can continue working until the teeth are in a perfect arch shape. At other appointments things are changed, added and/or removed. Depending on what's happening with your mouth and how you experience these changes, it may or may not cause you discomfort.

I think in all these years I've had one adjustment that made me consider the possibility of finding a pain med ... but I got over that by increasing the warm salt water rinses for the next couple of days.

Good luck with your first adjustment and here's to you hearing all positive comments from your ortho!

Good luck!! My only bit of advice for you before your appointment is: take some Motrin IB about an hour before you go in. I recommend at least 600mg (with food). If you stay medicated through those first few days you should be significantly better off. The sensitivity will still be there but it won't last nearly as long as it did when you got your braces off. And with each adjustment the recovery time is less and less. I'm excited for you to be progressing through your treatment!

You might not even feel a thing. Everyone is different and I hope you won't feel too much pain.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I will post an update tonight about how my adjustment went and hopefully I can include some pictures.
