Week 150 - Adjustment 22

Posted 09-28-2008 at 09:26 PM by Sunny

My Ortho was happy as the gap over my impacted canine is showing signs of closing. Awesome news!!!

He removed my ligs and archwires and made many bends in both the upper and lower archwires before putting them back in, taking them out, more bends ... repeat, repeat, repeat. He kept checking my bite, which is still open and only meets on the right - second molars. He's trying to get my bite to close, while also working to finishing closing the gap! Finally when he was happy with the bends, he put the archwires back in. He then put powerchains on both arches … the purple ones. My upper arch hasn’t had a powerchain for a long time, and this is the first time it’s gone over the gap of my impacted canine … so here’s to that gap being totally closed very soon.

New Elastic Configerations
I’m to wear elastics on both sides - Size 3/16". Left side is to be a triangle, from upper canine to lower canine and lower premolar. Right side is to be a triangle from upper first molar to lower canine and lower premolar.

It didn’t take long for my teeth to feel the changes … seems to be both upper and lower teeth on my left side, and think it’s due to the bends in the archwires more than the triangular elastic. The discomfort is only mild, but this is the first time I've experienced this in a while.

Here's to that gap being gone ... totally gone!!!

Now that sounds like a complex adjustment. I remember the fun of watching the doc fiddle with wires from the first time I had braces. It's weird because there's been absolutely no bending this time so far.

I'm glad to hear about your gap closing though. That's pretty much the last BIG hurdle, is it not?

The gap has been holding up my progress for more than two years HeadJam, so hopefully when it's closed, progress will be quick and this journey will end not too long after that.

My open bite is also being adressed, and then there's just bits and pieces of work that need doing.

The bending of the archwires sure is interesting, and precise work ... with all the in/bite/out/in/bite/out etc. What surprised me the most, is the discomfort I experienced after this appointment ... first time ever. I barely felt any discomfort when I had them fitted three years ago, but a couple of my teeth are still a bit tender now after this, my 22nd adjustment ... so the bends and elastics are definitely doing there work. Also my bite seems to be changing several times a day ... all good indicators of progress!

that must be exciting chains are cool because the changes they make are quickly and easily seen. Hope the gap closes fast!

The chain over the impacted canine gap will hopefully make it close a load quicker now. I've already seen the gaps on either side of my left upper lateral close ... that was fast. The gaps on either side of the left upper lateral closed when I wore upper powerchains a year or so back, but had partial reopened, so good to see how fast this could change.

    Thanks for your comments Mariah!
