You've definitely spent your fair share of time in braces, and by the looks of it tried ever color known to man . But your teeth look great. When are you getting them off?

    Thanks for the comments!

My treatment has gone off course a few times, due to things not working, like my impacted canine refusing to budge and no oral surgeon being prepared to remove it,due to where it's sitting.

My class III bite has become a class I on my left side - photo on the right a bit after the 2007 photo was taken ... and on my left side, it's not quite there jet, but it's getting closer.

My bite opened as it moved from being a class III ... and that's been frustrating for my ortho, as he's trying to get it to close as much as possible, but has told me that without surgery, it's likely to remain open ... but to what degree we're not yet sure.

Colours ... I mostly wear purple and black. I did have blue on at the one year pics ... but it turned sea green due to my love of tumeric ... so never ventured away from my favourites purple and black again.

My ortho wants to get my treatment finished ... which is understandable, as it's been going on so long. He was expecting three years ... so this extra time is frustrating. I'm hoping it will be early next year ... but I may get lucky.

My teeth will never be lined up like an ortho advertising smile ... but that was never the plan. My treatment is about sorting out my jaw problems, that are a result of my bite. So it was about closing gaps, fixing crowding, sorting the impacted canine, two cross bites ... etc etc etc.

I'm happy that the gaps are nearly all gone, as they were food collectors. Plus the jaw pain ... it's been heaps better since my first year of treatment ... so I'm happy ... very happy!

do you mind if i ask aswell sunny,,,, do you no the elastic bands at the corners of your mouth(on your teeth) on upper and lowers?? what are they there for??? x

At the one and two year stage I had class III elastics ... that's elastics that go from the upper first (or second molar) to the lower canine. These were to move my upper teeth forward in the arch and the lower teeth back in the arch. This was to move my class III bite to a class I.

For most of this past year I've been wearing a mix of elastics. Still have a class III elastic on my right side, to help bring the back teeth forward, to close the impacted canine gap and to get that side into class I position. My left side is already in class I, so now it's about closing the teeth and I have an elastic going from my upper canine down to my lower first premolar and canine ... in a triangle shape.

The size of the elastics has also changed. I started with 5/16", then wore 1/4", then 3/16" and for the past three months I've been wearing the smallest elastics we have, 1/8" ... and they're really tight!

Elastics can make amazing changes to your teeth and bite!

    really amazing
i believe that you are an expert enough to give proper advise for people
but where to get more information for classes of bite from?
  11. Sunny's Avatar
Osamawad working as an ortho assistant and studying for my job really helps m to gain a load of information. Also there's heaps on the internet, but like everything, you have to check the sources, before believing that it's all true.

Here's a couple of sites to check out about bites ...
Braces N Faces Orthodontists Geelong - Geelong, Hoppers Crossing and Werribee
Bite - Occlusion Teeth Occlusion Dental Article Ask The Dentist Dental Health Directory by Dr. Pohl

    Have fun researching!

Sunny you are a trooper to have the braces on for so long. Bless your heart. I see the changes. BTW - how the heck do you wear lipstick with the braces? I tried and it migrated right into the clear brackets. I was not a pretty sight.

Phoenix ... you do the 'finger suck' ... and that will remove any that will get on your brackets and teeth.

If you're not sure what that is ... after applying lippy, put your finger in your mouth and gently put your lips round it and slide it out. Wipe your finger clean ... and that should be all your 'spare' lippy removed.

Sunny - I will try the method you recommend. I have just been using clear/light colored gloss in the meantime. Thanks love.

Ziyoniao - are you are able to see other people's pictures on this site? I'm just wondering if you're being blocked from seeing pictures that are hosted from certain sites.
