These things are totally horrid!

I managed to wear them -
- 4 hours on Thursday
- 19 hours (10 hr, 9 hr) on Friday
- 19 hours (9 hr, 10 hr) on Saturday

... I'm not counting Thursday ... as that's when I got them, but Friday was a holiday and Saturday's the 'real' weekend ... so both days are short by 3 hours. I can't work out how I'm going to fit that extra 3 hours in ... plus if I decide to have a life (like go off my property) ... I'm not sure how I'd cope in public with these elastics in, as I can't talk properly, I can't eat and ... whinge, whinge, whinge ...

The frustrating thing is ... I really what my braces off asap ... and this seems like the best way to make this happen. Maybe I need to not work for the next few months ... stay away from friends ... and phones ... and just wear these elastics ... except when I'm eating and cleaning my teeth.

Damn my treatment taking this bend in the road ...

This photo shows my open bite, plus the array of elastics crossing from the right to the left, except for elastic number 7, which starts at my upper left canine, goes down under the hooks of my lower canine and premolar and back to the upper canines hook.

Here's my right side, with the gap over my impacted canine now closed. There's (a stained) chord tying the brackets on my lateral incisor and premolar together to keep this gap closed while the roots of the premolar keep moving in. The first bend in the archwire is to help bring that premolar into the canine postion, to help it come down more and generally behave itself ... unfortunately this bend has been there for nearly five months ... and it's not responding as quickly as we'd like. The second bend is to encourage the second premolar forward and into position ... I hope these teeth, will perform ... along with the rest!

Ah Sunny you poor thing, that sure is alot of elastics to deal with. But it will all be worth it in the end when your bite comes together :)

Goodluck and lets hope it gets easier for you and you'll soon have those braces off :D

Definitely the most elastics I've seen. The diagonal ones are for the midline correction and the triangular ones are to keep the bite together. It is definitely a radical way to try to finish things up, and I'm not sure your orthodontist would ever ask a patient to do this... but being you, I'm sure your orthodontist feels you can do it!

Here's to a debonding date in the near future! :)

Sunny you are capable of going through with this with an ease, you've always motivated many of us on here (including me) :D You're doing a great job with keeping your journal (as recommended) It's great news to hear that you'll be brace-free very soon! Wear those elastics proudly, so we can see that fantastic ending result!

I am impressed, Sunny! Impressed not only with the artistic display, but most especially with your patience and fortitude!

Here's hoping this takes care of what needs to be done and you can look forward to being brace-free soon! :thumb:

Today ... Sunday ... my mouth is feeling heaps better ... my jaw isn't achy.

Last night I cleaned before going to bed ... around midnight ... and I've not taken these things out since. It's been 13 hours ... and I'm stoked I've done this long. I've been drinking protein shakes (with loads of yummies added - pureed), so I'm not hungry. Have to admit I'm looking forward to tea time ... as I'll definitely be eating big time. Will make sure I have softish food, as my jaw may not be too keen on chewing ... but will see how it feels at the time.

After a protein shakes, I've been brushing the front of my teeth gently and using a mouthrinse. I've not been off my property, so I'm not concerned about odours at this moment ... but if I sense visitors, I'll be in my bathroom asap!

My ortho said he's only ever done this a few times in the past and only with stubborn patients ... I think he meant patients with stubborn teeth ... and I couldn't laugh properly, as I already had the elastics in when he told me! He has said I only need to wear numbers 1, 2, 3 and 7 during work days and if possible number 4. Then add 5 and 6 (the ones that stretch the furtherest) when I don't need to talk to people, or eat.

Wow! I must admit, when I saw your pics I thought "HOLY ****!" But then I paused and thought, "Ah, Sunny can handle it!" You've been such a positive force on these boards, and comforted and encouraged us all, so it's our turn to repay the favor. You will do just fine, and when you do finally get those braces off... well, I bet we get a million pics from a million different angles! Keep the faith - we all love you!

These were to try and move my top teeth to the left and lowers to the right, while closing my open bite.

My teeth didn't move far, but my bite has closed ... which is outstanding!

Where I work, the ortho's have never asked a patient to wear this many elastics at once before, but wearing them across the front of the mouth is quite common.

Good luck with your treatment and your bite closing easily! :thumb:
