Awkward looking teeth

Waiting for my 3rd adjustment on Nov 10!

It has been over three months since i have had braces and i'm being treated for bimaxillary protrusion. Now it is very awkward to smile for photos. As the ortho is pulling back my teeth, he first pulls my canines back before the incisors. so now, there is a huge gap between incisor and canine, which makes it look very awkward.

It's rather funny to look at myself in photos since when i smile nowadays, it looks like i have only 4 front teeth. It's not obvious here since i'm smiling as wide as i can to show all my front teeth. I need to find a new smile technique. I look like I have a monkey mouth when i close my mouth so I really don't know how else to smile but to show my teeth. I know i'm just whining and that this time will come to pass and things could only get better. but i can't wait for this to be over. lol!

Any of you had gone through a similar experience? Did it take very long to close the gap?

Like i always joke, now that the canines have started to disappear when i smile, my friends and i call it the negative vampire look since my canines are missing. lol

can't wait for more progress.

I had a gap in between my front two teeth looked like I had a tooth kno led out. Not similar to your but I wanna say it took a month and a half to two months. I had told them I would like to close it ASAP cuz I didn't like to smile and they did work with me to get it done when they could and as soon as they could. Talk to your ortho, also read over my blog if you'd like it goes over what they did for me

I used to have a big gap between my upper incisors (thanks to my underbite), and the first day they put a powerchain between them, within literally a few HOURS, the gap was half as big. As gaps close, new ones open up (like you, there was a big space in front of my canines as other gaps in the front closed- but powerchains fixed this in a few weeks). If they choose to close your gaps with powerchains, they are very effective and quick! (Or at least, I`ve had great success with them). Some people just call them "chains" too.

My ortho is now creating space to rotate a tooth. I agree chain work wonders but if you gap is big it will need to be chained for a lil bit to stay closed

I was googling bimaxillary protruong and came across this! A little late to reply but why not? haha. I had the same thing done to my teeth. Maybe a little bit worse sine they put a power chain on the first four and then power chains on either side so it basically made thegap bigger. They put in loops in my wire. I think its called a retraction arc? After a couple of month with loops in between the spaces, the gaps are all close now and I'm happy with the difference it made to my profile.
