Lingual braces - week 4

So now I've had upper lingual braces on for 4 weeks. The pain has almost completely gone, my speech is good and eating is not really a problem at all either. I am very happy with the upper lingual braces.

Can anyone tell me what their experience is with lower lingual braces vs ceramic braces? I'm still thinking about which way to go but the orthodontist has encouraged me to go for the ceramic braces. I'm a bit concerned about the visibility of these.

might want to post your questions in the lingual braces forum for a better response.

glad you are adjusting to your uppers well.

Fantastic that your uppers have adjusted so well!

I think some ortho's like this mix, due to the visibility being minimal and the comfort being much easier to control. Also sometimes it may make working on the lowers easier for the ortho.

Ask your ortho if there's a reason he'd prefer you not to go all lingual ... hopefully the answer will help!\

    Good luck!

    Hi,

I have lingual braces on both top and bottom. My ortho also suggested me to go with lower ceramics, but I really didn't want my braces visible at all, so I went with lingual braces on both. I had braces put on the top and bottom at the same time.

When I had them put on the lower braces bothered me more than the upper ones, and the speech seemed harder because of the lower ones as well. But I soon adapted, and today it is not a problem at all. As you said, adjusting to the initial pain, eating and speech is the problem, but we all adjust.

You should do whatever makes you feel better. It is true that people rarely see your lower teeth when you talk. Because of my orthodontic treatment I had one of my lower front tooth removed recently, and a "fake" tooth put in its place until the gap is closed. No one noticed a thing.

    Good luck,

    Pepper

I think it may depend on what your face looks like. I have ceramic uppers and lowers but an overbite so my bottom lip is thicker. You can't even see my bottom braces unless I smile WAY TOO BIG or pull my lip down.
