Adjustment
I had my first adjustment this morning. I feel some sensitivity in my teeth again, it really hurts to bite on things! It makes me feel good because when I first got the braces on I only felt sensitivity for like the first couple of days, then nothing.

My ortho said that I would definitely feel it more this time around, and may even see some movement in my bottom teeth! I'm looking forward to that and will take pics at the end of the month.

Chipped tooth
I also had a problem with my top front tooth being chipped from at ceramic on the bottom. It was awful and I was really worried. My ortho put like a white filling on two molars in the back to stop my bite from closing fully. It feels really horrible. I don't like it at all and I can't chew properly. I'm not sure I'll get used to it at all.

I also feel really self conscious because my jaw is always ajar and worry I look like I have a huge jaw!

The downside is that he didn't fix my chipped tooth, I forgot to ask him because he was going on and on about my treatment and movement, etc. and I lost my train of thought.

But I hope I don't have to pay to get my front tooth fixed. I'll be really annoyed if I do.

Still unnoticed
I went out with some friends I'd not seen for a long time and spent the entire evening during drinks and dinner with them. I told them the next day and they didn't notice I had braces at all!

Today my colleague who sits next to me was curious as to why I'd been to the dentist (since I've had quite a few visits recently), and he wondered what was going on. I mentioned getting glue on my back molars and he pressed on, but didn't seem to figure that I had them because it was part of my ortho treatment. Which means he hasn't noticed I have braces either. Good stuff! I wouldn't mind telling people, but it doesn't ever really feel like the right time. I don't exactly want to announce it!

Just counting down the days now until my lowers are straight enough for the linguals to go on.

    Quite an appointment Wallflower!

Molar buildup does take some adjusting to, but it will should mean you won't have to worry about chipping any of your teeth. Try chewing on the molar buildup ... that's what we tell our patients to do. Eventually the buildup will wear away, or be removed as your bite opens and the risk of contact with your lowers is no longer an issue.

Talk to your ortho about the chipped teeth. Often an ortho won't correct the problem, but refer you back to your dentist for some bonding to correct the problem. If the chip just requires smoothing, then your ortho may do it. But talk to him at your next appointment, so you can have that clarified in your mind.

It's fantastic that your treatment is going so unnoticed. I think in general people aren't interested in what's happening in other peoples mouths, although it was sweet that your colleague was curious.

I have metal brackets and although I realise many people will notice them, no one metions them, which is the way I like it.

    Good luck with your progress!

How awful that you chipped a tooth! I was so worried about chipping that I started keeping my jaw kind of ajar, even with my mouth closed...not attractive at all LOL I got my bottoms almost two months ago and the bite has opened enough that bumping isn't an issue anymore. I think it stopped being an issue about 1.5 months in so there is hope for you too!

Its great that people haven't noticed your braces either - that must make you feel really good
