I had pre-brace jitters last night thinking of how I would look with the braces on. Wondering if I'd regret it instantly then feel self conscious all the time.

Attachment 52

I got them put on this morning and went to work. My ortho put Clarity SL braces on my lower teeth. All of the front teeth and on the first molar on each side. I'm happy they don't go all the way to the back, I worried about sores.

It was a bit of a shock looking in the mirror! And felt strange to feel them on the inside of my lips, but it doesn't look too bad. and I don't think it shows at all when I talk. So I'm a happy bunny.

I don't feel any pain, they just feel a little tight. My ortho said the teeth would probably move quite quickly at first, but then they would learn to resist and then I'd need a thicker wire as the movement will slow down with time.

I got a pack with Mouth wash, two special ortho tooth brushes and some wax. I think I might invest in a little dental kit - if only for the retractable cup!

Back at work nobody mentioned my new braces, not sure if they noticed or were too polite to say I didn't catch anyone staring though, which is good

Congratulations on starting your braces treatment.
Investing in one of those portable dental kits is a good idea.
    Hope you see progress soon.

    Looking great Wallflower!

Your ortho has put brackets on all the teeth that usually have them, and even if he should decide to bracket your second molars, it's just about you being diligent with wax, until that area toughens.

The first phase of orthodontics is alignment, so when a patient has alignment issues, they do see early movement and it's a great motivator. During the phases of root movement and bite correction, visible movement can be slower and harder to detect ... but be confident it'll still be happening!

I've had a dentakit for four years and I never leave the house without it. It's been overseas with me many times ... been on boats, planes, trains etc etc etc! I love it, as it means I can eat whatever, whenever, and as long as I have water and my dentakit, I have everything I need to clean my teeth, if they need it! Of course you can put your own together ... or change the contents around, which is what.

I'm looking forward to following your progress!

Welcome to the braces club!! I've had mine for two weeks, today. The feeling sure is odd after you get them on. I went back to work after I got mine too and was really self-conscious about it. Most people are too polite to say anything. Some people have commented, but the comments are always very positive. I also work with two other adults who have them here in my department too. I didn't realize how common it was for adults to have braces, and I've lost being self-conscious about it. Just working on trying to lose the lisp now haha. Glad you are here, and are sharing your journey with us!
