I feel like I've done nothing but moan since Friday, this really must stop! I need to get a grip! I'm so sorry guys, I will cheer up soon i'm sure....it's summery today!

Going by the ortho's instructions I'm to take the bottom aligner out for 12 hours a day now. On saturday evening I took it out at 6pm and put it back in at midnight.......it was agony to go back in and I cant take painkillers just now. So I'm left with a dilemma, what do I do? Do I build up to 12 hours over the next month before I see him again, do I keep the tray in all day with the hope that leaving it in will keep the teeth in place longer? Maybe for another few weeks, it's only been in 2 1/2 so far, Theres no way I'm trying 12 hours if 6 hurt so much. I can't call him to ask either as he's not around until my next appointment , dilema dilema.........

Wow ... that doesn't sound good, as aligners shouldn't cause you to be in agony when out for that timeframe ... no matter when in your treatment.

Please phone your ortho office and ask for help, you don't need to speak to your ortho, as there should be others who can assist you with advice. You have two things that need to be dealt with, and this is their area of expertise. You need to know how best to deal with the bottom aligner, as 12 hours sounds way to long if it's going to hurt ... and hurting that much doesn't sound right at all. Plus you need to get some reassurance about the IPR gap closing.

    Good luck!

Rang the surgery this morning, no one knows what I should do so I've to take more time off work on Friday to go in and see him. Until Friday I'll try in and out a few hours at a time see how I go with that slowly building up to the 12. All this is rather annoying as I was doing so well up until now......but Wee Yin..... no moaning, today is a new day gotta get on with things thats are more important than teeth.

Great you've made that phone call and great you've come up with the idea to do 'short spells' with the aligner out, to see how your mouth copes when you put it back in.

Keep up the positive self talk ... it really does help!

Thanks Sunny, you are soooo inspirational, can I pack you up in a wee box (well first class air travel) and bring you to Scotland for a hug! I really do feel a lot better after your comments and the phone call.

Wow ... I wish you could, as I've heard Scotland is a beautiful country and it was on my hubby's travel plans for this year ... but obviously that won't be happening. We'd planned to go to a wedding in Ireland in just over a month, then spend time in Scotland, Wales and England. I'm so pleased we had those plans ...

Weeeyin you're doing really well and sometimes it's hard to know, as I've often found as an adult having ortho treatment, it can be a lonely journey. This is especially true of countries where adults having treatment is rare and I still don't know anyone having treatment ... even after all this time. Adults come in and out at work and it's great to see them, but they disappear back into their busy lifestlyes until I see them at another appointments. I don't live in the city I work in, and living rural possibly does isolate also. But forums like this give us the opportunity to express when we're feeling up and down ... and that's great. Plus it gives people the opportunity to share things that have worked and not worked ... and to help with ideas that might or might not work.

When I read your self talk ... I felt straight away you're getting over this 'hump' in your treatment. The self talk won't make it go away, but it helps you find ways to cope and that keeps you feeling better. You want to be on top of the world ... coz I'm sure you go on holiday soon.

    So take good care!
