I think I'm coming down off my cloud and back to reality. I'm so pleased its all over and i'm finished with my braces and as of tomorrow i'll be a retainer wearer...does that mean i change forum thread?! Aww i'll miss everyone you've all been my friends over the past year and some even though I've only had my trays since January I started the ortho visits in August last year. I'm delighted with how things have been finished. Ok i didnt like IPR and I felt maybe a smidge too much was done in 2 places.....but it's honestly nothing as you see in one pic I'm going to post, whats a bit of stuck bacon now and again?!

The light isnt too goo where i've taken these pictures so i'll maybe post new ones at a later stage - but it was dark when i got home tonight so take them at the window like normal. I'm so glad I have before and after pics so I'll try post them in this blog like it...if you dont mind.

Luv Weeeyin xx

    IPR = Interproximal Reduction

    IPR is the selective removal of a very small amount of enamel from a prescribed number of teeth. This is done using diamond coated strips (similar to a fingernail file) or a dental handpiece and an ultrafine diamond bur or disc.

    The procedure is painless and does not require anesthesia. The procedure does not remove all of the enamel from the surface of the tooth so that the tooth will be no more likely to decay or experience sensitivity than any untreated tooth. Most teeth have approximately 3.5 to 4 mms of enamel on their surfaces. IPR typically will remove .3 mm or less.

    The advantage of Interproximal Reduction as a treatment technique is the reduced need for tooth extraction to gain space and the ability of the orthodontist to improve the contours of the teeth so they fit together better. We gain a very small amount of space in multiple areas in the mouth which additively helps improve alignment and relieve crowding. We are able to treat many more malocclusions without the need for tooth removal.

    You'll see in my blogs I've been THE biggest baby when it comes to IPR, it didnt actually hurt in th sence of hurt but my teeth were "bonded" sort of under the gum line so the ortho had to go really right into the gum to shave that bit of tooth and it was mostly the gum shreading that I didnt like, it was a bit sore for a day then fine again. Defo better than getting a tooth out to create the space.
