Fitted at last, and not sure what to think

Well the big day has been and I’m now fitted! I’ve yet to decide if this is a good or a bad thing and what exactly I feel. The fitting.....well not the most pleasant hour of my life. I got a bit of that evil filing down done.....mucho sore - I’m just a big baby who’s never had anything like that before and it was more the sensation I didn’t like. I got my attachments put straight on from the word go with “tray 0” which felt incredibly tight. In all I’ve 7 attachments, 3 on the top right, 2 on top left and 2 on bottom right (none on bottom left – yipeee) one wouldn’t stick very well but it’s on now and I feel it’ll never come off, think they’re bonded with super super glue! They’re almost clear and you really can’t see them when the trays are out but boy are they weird feeling when I’m eating. They feel a bit rough but I’ve never had a filling and mum convinces me they’ll smooth out or at least I’ll get used to it. There s no cheek rubbing.

Trays “one” went in nice and easy....but getting them out again 4 hours later myself for dinner was a completely different ball game! 10 mins to get the bottom tray out and 35 mins, tears, tantrum and a big “WHAT HAVE I DONE” later the top was out.....my dinner was cold, microwaved that then realised it was sore to chew. Saturday night takeaway didn’t go down very well! After dinner and a good clean they were back in – funny how that takes seconds eh?! After that I left them in till morning.

Feeling more confident 10 mins and both trays were out the next moning. Now, Monday morning, I’ve got removal under 3 mins without hurting myself too. The pain of chewing hasn’t completely gone yet but i feel like i can bite down now and its comfier to have the trays in rather than out.

No one at work has noticed although comments made why I’m drinking water rather than the fizzy drinks i’m known for hehehehhe

Oh i thought i’d be a clever stick last night and break a crisp up, so it didn’t need chewing, thought i did quite well until i took trays out for cleaning before bed – top one was full of crisp, gross! You really can’t eat in them!!!!

So he’s to the next year!........29 top trays and 13 bottom! This was even a shock to my ortho who said I had a simple case!

    Great your treatment has started!

Sorry you found the IPR uncomfortable. I've had it done a few times ... and I've never felt anything ... for which I'm grateful.

Great you improved so quickly getting the trays out. Most invisalign wearers find this is one of the more challenging aspects at the beginning and again after some new aligners.

    Good luck with your progress!

Oh, I forgot to say I've to wear tray 1 for 10 days then tray 2 for 11 days ready for the next bit of IPR (urgh and double urgh) and tray 3 on the 31st Jan. Hope this is ok, my ortho seems happy with the plan. Could well be finished my trays by Christmas at this rate!

Congratulations on starting. The results will be worth it. Hope the attachments stay on.

That's an interesting plan, and remember your ortho is the experienced person, so he knows what is best for your teeth. I will be great to hear how your first month goes, with so many trays ... you might really be able to see some changes!

Hopefully your next round of IPR is like mine ... uneventful!

Thanks Sunny. If the IPR is horrible again I'll need a general anasthetic to get me back in the chair - I'm SUCH a baby!

I cant believe I've 29 trays for the top, and I thought, och, 6 months I'll be finished, who am I kidding! My ortho was really surprised when my trays arrived in 2 boxes! heheheh.

Day 3 today and feeling good, and even get them in and out without a mirror

Sounds like you're doing really well Weeevin!

Something we recommend to anxious patients, is to take an 'over the counter' pain med before their appointment, as this helps them through whatever their body is finding challening. This may help you before your next lot of IPR.

    Good luck!

one thing i find really helps (maybe for next time) is to take the trays in and out while still at your dent/ortho's office. if there are any rough edges, they should polish them for you to make tray slip more easily over your attachments.

good luck with the rest of treatment! I just got my attachments too and they seem to get better after a while.
