I had my braces put on tues 10th Jan. The first day was as though they were tricking me. There was no pain or discomfort and I was telling everyone how great they were. Approx 6hrs later they showed there true colours! Downing painkillers and eating cold jelly helped take the swelling down but it was still uncomfortable. The braces themselves weren't bad, there was no rubbing on my gums and my teeth weren't sensitive so I researched potential problems and realised my gums were swollen and my teeth were actively moving so it was just general toothache. All over my mouth! I have spent the last 3 days taking cocodamol and ibroprofen every 4 hrs which has helped with swelling and pain and living on soup, pasta and mashed veg. Today however i managed to eat some bread which tasted amazing! I have to say, I never thought this pain would pass but I have noticed it is getting easier over the 3rd day. It's still sore and I can't clench my teeth together fully cause it feels sensitive but its certainly not as painful as the 2nd day. Picturing the end result is mainly what has kept me going and prevented me from takig a claw hammer to my mouth. It is uncomfortable but it is bearable and I'm not one for pain. I'll keep posts over the weeks to let you know how I'm getting on. Hope this is helpful for somebody.

I had the same exact experience. I had mine put on Jan 5th and was like "this is a piece of cake" for the first 5-6 hours and then WAM! I took ibuprofen every 6 hours and tried to sleep through the pain as much as possible. I just started being able to chew soft foods yesterday without it paining me whatsoever. Unfortunately I go to get my bottoms on feb 9th sooooo back to square one. Good Luck!

Good luck shinshan904. For some reason I woke up at 4am in severe pain and today feels worse than the first 2days. Just as I thought it was getting easier. I've got a bad head cold though so I know all my sinuses are swollen which connect to nerves near the teeth so that's probably not helping. I just hope it goes off soon cause its driving me mad. I just can't see light at the end of the tunnel just yet.
