I had an over bite and gaps through out my teeth and I got my braces put on a yr ago my bite is fixed and most of my gaps are closed but I have two small gaps on the sides of my teeth. My orthodoc told me that I will be getting them off this mt. but I just don't think it is time, I really want these gaps to close and I am scared that the other gaps will reopen since I've only had my braces for a yr. Is it true that theses two gaps are not capable of closing...what must I do??
Ask your orthodontist about it.

I'm kind of in the same boat. I just got my braces off this morning and I'm still adjusting but what I'm mostly adjusting with is the fact that I didn't think they were ready to come off. I'll get my retainer in about a week but it still feels like my upper right k9 is up higher than my left and one of my bottom front teeth seems to be protruding a little.
Can retainers fix things like this?
I'm a bit unsettled about it.
Thanks!
in most cases the retainers alone wont fix it. They are just a mold of your exact bite from the day the braces are off. Talk to your ortho about it, but remember your teeth don't have to be 100% perfect as most of the times none are even with several years of braces treatement.
From what I know retainers can close small gaps and will keep your teeth in their new postion.. AS LONG AS YOU WEAR THEM!!! So if you wear your retainer you should be fine. You might want to bring your concerns up to your orthodontist. Good luck![]()
Hawley retainers (the kind with the wire that goes around your teeth) can work fine to close gaps. Yes, the molds are made from the teeth as they are, but the wire can be adusted and springs can be added to move teeth. I had 2 teeth moved with my Hawley after debonding.
Braaces this is an old post - December 2007 - till April last year ... it's good forum etiquette to keep comments to the most recent posts.
Hope that helps!![]()
After 5 years, 11 months and two days of stainless steel brackets ... my teeth now have upper and lower bonded, gold wire, retainers and removable clear retainers!
Realising that some people just seek information by reading a forum like this, rather than posting their questions, I think that if there is a new/additional/valuable insight to be added, there is nothing wrong with adding it even to an older thread. Of course there's little point in adding mere platitudes to a stale thread, but good, pertinent information can always add value, if not to the original poster, then potentially to future readers.
Not bad at all Braaces ... it's just about learning the best way to use forums like this one.
As Zoso has written above, if you'd had new stuff to add to what had been written above, then it's okay to add to old posts, but otherwise it's best not to write to them, as it brings them back to the top of the forum and often the members involved have solved their issues or moved on.
Take care!![]()
