They would need to take an x-ray before they do filing because they need to be sure that they don't remove too much enamel. Welcome, I see you are new![]()
It's been a few years since I've had my braces off. The only concern I have with my teeth are the 'bumps' they have from not being fully worn down. They could use some filing done... but I'm worried I'd need braces again in case the filing takes off too much enamel to remove them, causing the alignment to be off. Especially since the front tooth beside my eye tooth has a bit of space between the bottom tooth when I bite down.
I know I should be consulting my concern with a dentist, but I'm curious to know if anyone has had a similar problem, and if so, what they did.

Thanks. (: I'll consult my dentist about it next time I go for a cleaning, which will be quite soon.
And it wouldn't be making my teeth look like those of an older person.
I know I didn't supply an example picture, but you can not automatically assume that they'd have to be filed to that extreme.
It would obviously be done for cosmetic reasons. It's not that bad, but it makes me very self conscious. I feel as though some of my teeth look like they've only recently come out.
Small ridges and irregularities indicate that the teeth are not excessively worn: this is a youthful feature, as wear increases with age. Totally straight "chicklet" teeth at best look like they are more worn (therefore denoting greater age) or at worst look like bad dentures.
Zoso, I couldn't agree more.
After 2 phases of braces (and $8,000) and then removal just the other day, the "quickie" orthodontist (who we've rarely ever seen) just came in and started filing my daughter's teeth without asking. I got up and asked what she was doing and was so pissed to find out she was removing the "bumps" that I told her so. I still can't get over it and don't know how to vent my frustration. There should be professional consequences for unprofessional behavior like that.
