Phone your orthodontist and explain what's happened.

Your teeth might move, they might not ... but is it worth the risk and is it worth getting stressed over? Please make the call and good luck getting new retainers that you'll love and never loose!
After 5 years, 11 months and two days of stainless steel brackets ... my teeth now have upper and lower bonded, gold wire, retainers and removable clear retainers!

I agree, give your ortho a call. After the time and money spent making a beautiful smile why risk it?

I had those type of retainers the first time around and didn't like them....needless to say I'm in braces again because I didn't wear them as I was driected.

    How do you like them?

Ask about a backup retainer when you go back in. I just picked up my retainers today (BRACES OFF YESTERDAY !!! YIPPIE) and got two retainers. It was discounted for the second retainer purchased at the same time as the primary. The closer you are to when your braces were removed the more likely your teeth will shift and shift quickly. Just in the 24 hours between having braces off and the retainer put in, my teeth moved enough to make the retainer tight and a little painful for a couple hours.

Having a backup will save you when you lose your retainer, and apparently this is a very common occurance. As soon as you move to the backup, call your orthodontist to get a new backup.

    Good luck.
