teeth angled outward after removing braces

I just removed my braces, but both my top and bottom teeth are angled outward, almost like this:

My orthodontist thinks that this is how my teeth should be but was willing to make it straighter for me. He told me that the only way for him to make it straighter would be for me to use head gear.
I do not want to go through the troubles and pain of head gear because I'm sure it will affect my studies. However, I am willing to put braces back on.

There must be some other way to fix this. Does anyone know how I can straighten my teeth without using headgear?

Brui I recommend you consult with another ortho or two to check what could be done to straighten your teeth slightly. I've never heard of headgear being used for this work, but then I work in a country that doesn't use headgeaer. To reduce that angle, we'd use archwires, powerchains and elastics, but there must be a reason your ortho has recommended this treatment to you.

Did your ortho explain why your teeth have finished with this type of angle? Sometime a slight angle is the best result, due to the bite and shape of the arch, but your ortho should be able to explain the reasons for this to you. A class III corrected without surgery will sometimes finish with the upper teeth angled to give a class I bite at the front.

Good luck finding out more about how this can be fixed.
After 5 years, 11 months and two days of stainless steel brackets ... my teeth now have upper and lower bonded, gold wire, retainers and removable clear retainers!

i agree with sunny.. archwires and elastics do the job..

I'd def go get some more opinions as Im wondering why your ortho didnt see this the first time around...

I'm guessing the ortho felt this was the only way to get the teeth aligned without extractions. Elastics are all fine and good, but unless you use some form of "fixed" anchors (miniscrew implants, headgear, or such) then they just have teeth pulling against teeth, so you'd not be able to get both arches further back that way. I'm also not sure here, but I think that distalising both arches at once can be a tough task.

You could explore with your ortho whether a little judicious use of IPR might help.

But do note that the front teeth are meant to be a little angled to give the correct bite.
I am not a dental professional.

As it says on the main Bracesreview.com page, always consult a qualified orthodontist, dentist, or medical professional with questions you may have.
